Incoming freshmen

International students who graduated from a U.S. high school may be considered for Scholarships for Entering Freshmen. Graduates of non-U.S. high schools may be considered for the International Excellence Scholarship, International Leadership Scholarship and the Board of Governors Scholarship (see below).

Transfer students

International students transferring from a U.S. community college may be considered for Scholarships for Entering Transfer Students.

Students transferring from partner institutions may qualify for the International Partners Fee Waiver program administered by the Office of International Services.

Students transferring from an institution outside of the U.S. may be considered for the International Transfer Scholarship.

International Transfer Scholarship

Value

This scholarship has a value of $8,500, payable at $4,250 per semester during the academic year (fall and spring semesters). The scholarship is not applicable to summer enrollment. The scholarship is renewable for two years beyond the first year (three years total) and thus has a total potential value of $25,500.

This scholarship cannot be combined with other university scholarships.

No application is required. Qualified students will be identified by the Office of International Services through the admission process.

Selection criteria

This scholarship is awarded to international students (non-Missouri residents for fee purposes) entering Missouri State as first-time transfer students. To qualify, students must have completed at least 24 college credits with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher prior to the first semester of regular enrollment. Participation in an English language training program does not qualify as regular enrollment but also does not prevent students from receiving the scholarship if they are otherwise qualified.

Renewal criteria

Students must meet the general Scholarship Enrollment and Renewal Standards. The scholarship can be renewed for two years beyond their first year for students who remain enrolled at the undergraduate level. To renew, students must complete 27 Missouri State credit hours per year and maintain a 3.00 cumulative Missouri State grade point average.

Graduate students

International students may be considered for the Missouri Outreach Graduate Opportunity (MOGO) Scholarship and Graduate Assistantships.

MSU annual scholarships

International students may also be considered for MSU annual scholarships. Many of these scholarships have very specific requirements and limited funding. Scholarships that have a financial need criterion are not available to international students.

International Excellence Scholarship

Value

This scholarship has a value of $7,500, payable at $3,750 per semester during the academic year (fall and spring semesters). The scholarship is not applicable to summer enrollment. The scholarship is renewable for three years beyond the first year (four years total) and thus has a total potential value of $30,000.

This scholarship cannot be combined with other university scholarships.

Selection criteria

This scholarship is awarded to international students (non-Missouri residents for fee purposes) entering Missouri State as first-time college students. To qualify, students must have an ACT composite of 24 or higher (or SAT of 1160*) in addition to a strong academic record in high school (secondary school). Additionally, students must enroll at Missouri State as regular, degree-seeking students on the Springfield Campus within 24 months of completion of high school or the equivalent in their country and must have qualifying test scores on file prior to the first semester of regular enrollment.

*SAT score reflects the sum of the Evidenced-Based Reading/Writing and Math portions of the SAT.

Renewal criteria

Students must meet the general Scholarship Enrollment and Renewal Standards. The scholarship can be renewed for three years beyond their first year for students who remain enrolled at the undergraduate level. To renew, students must complete 27 Missouri State credit hours per year and maintain a 3.00 cumulative Missouri State grade point average.

International Leadership Scholarship

Value

This scholarship has a value of $10,000, payable at $5,000 per semester during the academic year (fall and spring semesters). The scholarship is not applicable to summer enrollment. The scholarship is renewable for three years beyond the first year (four years total) and thus has a total potential value of $40,000.

This scholarship cannot be combined with other university scholarships.

Application

Apply for admission by March 15 for fall semester (apply by September 15 for spring semester). Eligible students will be identified by the Office of International Services based on their admission application credentials. Eligible students will be asked to submit an essay for consideration by the International Leadership Scholarship Selection Committee, which will choose the scholarship recipients.

Selection criteria

This scholarship is awarded to international students (non-Missouri residents for fee purposes) entering Missouri State as first-time college students. To qualify, students must have an ACT composite of 26 or higher (or SAT of 1230*) in addition to a strong academic record in high school (secondary school). Additionally, students must enroll at Missouri State as regular, degree-seeking students on the Springfield Campus within 24 months of completion of high school or the equivalent in their country and must have qualifying test scores on file prior to the first semester of regular enrollment.

Board of Governors Scholarship

Value

This scholarship has a value of $5,500 per year, $1,000 per year for on-campus housing, a one-time $1,000 education-abroad voucher, plus a full waiver of out-of-state fees. The scholarship is payable half fall and half spring and is not applicable to summer enrollment. The scholarship is renewable for three years beyond the first year (four years total).

This scholarship cannot be combined with other university scholarships.

This scholarship is awarded to international students (non-Missouri residents for fee purposes) entering Missouri State as first-time college students. To qualify, students must have earned an International Baccalaureate Diploma. Additionally, students must enroll at Missouri State as regular, degree-seeking students on the Springfield Campus within 24 months of completion of high school or the equivalent in their country.

Renewal criteria

Students must meet the general Scholarship Enrollment and Renewal Standards. The scholarship can be renewed for three years beyond their first year for students who remain enrolled at the undergraduate level. To renew, students must complete 27 Missouri State credit hours per year and maintain a 3.50 cumulative Missouri State grade point average.
