The course will examine both (i) theoretical issues concerning proper aims, scope and justification for political frameworks and social institutions, and
(ii) substantive issues raised by competing policy alternatives in relation to ideals of equality, liberty and justice.
Readings for the course will combine work from influential contemporary philosophers (e.g., Rawls, Nozick, Walzer, MacIntyre, Sandel) and principled argument from landmark USSC rulings.
