The Stone County Health Department is established, maintained and operated for the promotion of the health and prevention of disease of all inhabitants of Stone County. This mission is accomplished through:

• Monitoring health status to identify community health problems.
• Diagnosing and investigating health problems and health hazards in the community.
• Informing, educating, and empowering people about health issues.
• Mobilizing community partnerships to identify and solve health problems.
• Developing policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts.
• Enforcing laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety.
• Linking people with needed personal health services and assure the provision of health care when otherwise unavailable.
• Assuring a competent public health workforce by providing ongoing training.

Supplemental food/nutrition education program (WIC), immunizations, family planning, sexually transmitted disease testing, communicable disease monitoring, vital records (birth and death certificates), health education, drug abuse referrals, wellness clinics (blood draws, blood pressure monitoring, check ups and referrals), environmental services (well water testing, septic permits, food service inspections, water quality surveillance).
