The mission of the Missouri Hotel is to create a place where all persons – especially those who are poor or marginalized – may experience acceptance with dignity. They also seek to provide services which will enable residents to become self-sufficient and fulfilled. Thus, there is an increasing emphasis on helping people overcome their difficulties and to learn from them, while gaining education and experience which will help them maintain independence.
The charisma of healing, joy, and wholeness is a dynamic force in the services offered. All human life is sacred. It is a gift from God and is treasured from its inception to its end. Persons have the right of self-determination to direct their lives toward their personal goals, as long as these rights do not infringe on those of others. All persons deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Moralistic judgments have no place in our relationships with others. In keeping with the Gospel mandate, the poor and/or disadvantaged and those without power are given our preferential option. All resources are a gift and are to be used in a responsible manner. Administration and management function from an attitude of service rather than from power. This implies that the services are accomplished through the sharing of gifts and talents and not by job titles and descriptions. Authority is the exercise of love and care. No one is excluded from service or employment, or discriminated against in any way, because of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, or disability.
The Missouri Hotel provides housing, shelter, material necessities, case management, on-job training through resident service hours at various program worksites, life skills classes, provision for individual needs (Missouri Identification, birth certificates, etc.) and assistance in accessing on-campus services or, if necessary, referral to other services in the community.
Families, single parents, and single women.
