Nurses Can Be Found In

Practice sites for nurses are becoming more varied and more community based in response to the changing health care market.

  • 59% are employed in hospitals.
  • 18% work in community or public health settings including health departments, visiting nurse/hospice services, home health care agencies, and substance abuse centers.
  • 8% find work in ambulatory care setting such as medical offices, freestanding clinics, health maintenance organizations.
  • 7% work in nursing homes, extended care facilities and residential care settings. 
  • 7% work in nursing education settings, state boards of nursing, federal agencies, health planning agencies, prisons/jails, and insurance companies.
