Randy Hamm, Director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Saxophone, joined the faculty of Missouri State University in 1989. While studying at the University of North Texas, Hamm was a member of the internationally-acclaimed One O'clock Lab Band. He maintains an active performance schedule and his work as a composer, arranger, and featured soloist can be heard on the Arabesque, Seabreeze, and Origin/OA2 record labels. Hamm has released two solo CDs on the Encore Music Presents (EMP) record label, "Yellow Cadenza" and "Abstract Thought."

Dr. Jason Hausback, Trombone

Equally at home as a performer and a teacher, Jason Hausback has been active in many musical spheres. Prior to his arrival at Missouri State University, Hausback was the Adjunct Professor of Low Brass at Eastfield College (Mesquite, TX), and Brookhaven College (Farmer’s Branch, TX). He was also a teaching fellow in both the trombone studio and the jazz studies department at the University of North Texas. Under his direction, the U-Tubes won the 2010 Eastern Trombone Workshop National Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition, and issued their first CD entitled "The U-Tubes" in the spring of 2011. While a student at UNT, Hausback was also a member of the internationally-acclaimed One O'Clock Lab Band and was on the recording "Lab 2009," which was subsequently nominated for two Grammies.

Dr. Grant Peters, Trumpet

Grant Peters is Professor of Music at Missouri State University, where he teaches applied studio trumpet and serves as the Brass Area Coordinator. Mr. Kyle Aho, Piano/Improvisation

Kyle Aho holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Idaho State University and a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from the New England Conservatory. He has studied and performed with Bob Brookmeyer, George Garzone, George Russell, Jerry Bergonzi, Fred Hersch, Frank Carlberg, among others. Aho joined the MSU faculty in 2010 and teaches jazz piano, jazz theory, improvisation, and jazz symposium.

John Strickler, Guitar/Bass

Mr. John Strickler, Guitar/Bass

 

John Strickler holds a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from Missouri State University and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas. While at UNT, John was a Graduate Teaching Fellow and has studied with Fred Hamilton, Bruce Forman, and John Scofield. Strickler joined the MSU faculty in 2008 and teaches jazz guitar and jazz bass.

Mr. Marty Morrison, Drums/Jazz History

 

Marty Morrison received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Morrison has performed and shared the stage with Wynton Marsalis, Jonathan, Butler, Bobby McFerrin, Marcus Roberts, Phil Woods, Gary Thomas, Rick Margitza, and Reggie Thomas, among others. He has toured Japan, England, Germany, Belgium, Korea Azerbaijan, Canada, Mexico, Honduras, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. He joined the MSU faculty in the Fall of 2013 and teaches jazz drums, jazz history, and jazz symposium.
