The orchestra and string divisions offer a variety of scholarships for talented musicians who play stringed instruments. Music major, minor and non-major students are encouraged to apply for any of the following scholarship for which they qualify.
Talent Awards
$100-$1000/year-awards based on audition for the orchestra area. May be a non-major or music major or minor and must perform in the orchestra. Renewable, provided contract requirements are met.
Performance Awards (4)
$2000/year awarded to 4 students on the basis of audition and promise for success in the student’s performance area awarded by band, choral, orchestra and piano areas; renewable, provided contract requirements are met.
George H. Klinkerfuss Scholarship (1)
Outstanding freshman music major, string player, as determined by string faculty. Renewable annually 3 times provided student continues to make satisfactory academic and musical progress. Not awarded in years held by continuing student. $2500 per year.
William T. White String Scholarships
Outstanding string music majors as determined by audition; may be undergraduate or graduate student; 2.5 gpa required if undergrad; 3.0 gpa for grad students. Various amounts will be awarded and may pay as much as half to full tuition.
Applied Lesson Fee Waivers
All full-time music students are encouraged to apply each semester for a fee waiver to defray the cost of the additional “special” fees assessed for applied music courses. These waivers are valued at $60-$105 per semester, dependent upon the specific lessons required by the student’s degree program or ensemble director.
