The members of the string faculty are experienced solo, chamber and orchestral musicians who are dedicated to teaching and to helping students perform at their highest level. The faculty can prepare students for successful performing or teaching careers.
Applied music (private) study is available for music majors and minors and, depending upon availability, non-music majors. Students should contact the faculty member for their instrument (see listing at left.)
Students in the string division may study chamber music with faculty members and perform on university chamber music recitals, convocations, or other special events.
The Missouri State University Symphony welcomes music major and minors and non-major students who qualify through audition. Please see the orchestra web page.
The Missouri State University Chamber Orchestra serves to further the ensemble study of selected string performers. For more information contact Dr. Amy Muchnick.
The Hawthorne Trio conducts String Fling, chamber music workshops for middle school and high school students, each summer. For more information, please click on the String Fling link.
String Scholarships are made available on a competitive basis for incoming students in conjunction with the orchestra program. The string division is pleased to offer the orchestra talent awards, the George Klinkerfuss Scholarship, the Louis and Francis Muchnick Scholarship, and the William T. White Scholarships. Beginning in Fall, 2007, the White Scholarships will fund a graduate quartet. Students are also urged to seek academic scholarships at www.missouristate.edu/financialaid/scholarships.asp .
