October 2009 Reflections

Fall Brings New Projects and New Faculty

Fall!  Once again the aroma of fall is in the air!  Football frenzy is upon us and MSU’s team has won three conference games and the team is looking better than they have in a long time.  Most of the Marketing faculty have acquired season tickets.  Of course, we attribute the team’s present success to our “brand loyalty.”  You can find our departmental “tailgate” on the southwest side of the tailgate area.  Come by and say “hello!”

The 15th annual COBA Homecoming Picnic is going to be the best ever, October 31st!  All the COBA administrators will be on hand to help out, and many thanks to those who take time out from their busy Saturday to join us at the picnic, and the Great Sports Ball Giveaway (12:30) will be absolutely fabulous due to all of the MSU teams’ and bookstore’s donations.  Won’t you put down in your calendar right now to attend the COBA picnic?

You will read in this Newsletter the success once again of the Marketing Department’s Ad Team in winning more national championships and the subsequent requests from Jefferson City.  Congratulations to Dr. Melissa Burnett, her Ad Team students, and the advertising faculty who develop a learning environment for our Advertising and Promotion students.  Our advertising program is rated in the top ten nationally and students come from many states to enter it.  We have approximately 300 students in the program which makes us one of the largest of its kind in the United States.

(continued)

We are proud to announce three new faculty members in our department:  Ahren Johnston, Ph.D. (Logistics and Supply Chain Management), Alex Hamwi, Ph.D. (Sales and Sales Management), and Ron Clark, Ph.D. (Marketing and Consumer Behavior).   All three have already made a positive impact!

Luke with Students

In addition to serving as the head grill chef, Dr. Robin Luke attended the Spring 2009 Marketing Yourself class dinner. Students from Sherry Cook's class invited marketing professionals to serve as their guests. We also welcome our new Dean, Danny Arnold.  He has brought new ideas and energy to the College of Business Administration, and we look forward to his experienced leadership.  During these first few months after his arrival, he and his charming wife, Peggy, have hosted everyone in the building to their home for socials, and he has met with faculty and staff in his office to introduce himself and to listen.  This is a very refreshing way to start an association with a college leader!

We do hope that you will continue to support the Marketing Department by considering a gift, an endowed scholarship, or perhaps something more.  Many of us would not have realized our success without the training received by the professors of our university.  I would be pleased to speak with you in private on how you can assist in our continued improvement toward excellence in the classroom.
