 Celebrate Spring

By Sherry Cook

Photosynthesis is sooooo cool

So we might be rushing the season a bit, but March does signal a much awaited change: winter to spring.  And, while we’ve escaped a great deal of the nasty weather that pummeled us the last couple of winters, it’s still been a rough few months to say the least.  With daily doses of negative economic news, who can fault us for looking toward the brighter, longer days of a new season?

Despite the troubling economy, exciting things are happening at MSU and in the Marketing Department.  Certainly Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s support of higher education is promising.  The opening of JQH Arena has offered hours of entertainment and has been embraced by the MSU community and the Springfield region as a whole. With an incredible opening night concert with the Eagles, to an exciting Bears win over rival Arkansas, to hosting the first graduation in the arena in December, JQH is a great facility.

And what about academics?  Many top-notch students make plans to enter MSU as freshman, fall 2009, as Missouri State remains one of the best educational values in the state.  And, our Missouri State Ad Team continues to “blow away” the competition and make an even bigger national name for MSU.

Finally, you can’t  “think spring” without thinking baseball. The Marketing Department is particularly proud of Advertising/Promotion student Tim Clubb, one of the most highly touted collegiate baseball players in the country.  A baseball, first team All-American, Tim was named Missouri Valley Pitcher of the Year in 2008.  To top that off, Clubb was also named Missouri Valley Scholar-First Team. Marketing major Kyle Dyer and Logistics major Sean Toler are also part of the Bears Baseball Team.

You can’t be around the students we deal with on a daily basis, or receive the emails and visits we get from our friends and alumni, without slipping into an optimistic frame of mind.  As you read through this e-newsletter about the great things happening, we forgive you if you too slip out of a doom and gloom mindset.  And, besides, spring is just around the corner!
