May 2008 Marketing Highlights

Congratulations Marketing Graduates!

     Graduation

As the Spring 2008 semester comes to a close, 94 Marketing students, with all their hopes and aspirations, will graduate this week.  For those who have spent their college “career” at Missouri State, they have been a part of exciting times at the University.  They’ve celebrated the University’s Centennial and have watched Southwest Missouri State University become Missouri State.  They trudged to school, and perhaps lived without electricity, for what seemed like days on end, as an ice storm wreaked havoc on and around campus in January 2006. They arrived in  fall 2004 with a gallon of gasoline averaging about $1.77 per gallon and graduate with gas costing in the $3.50 per gallon range.

Technology has continued to play an ever increasing role in their academic lives as virtually all aspects of University life—educational and socialis posted online.  Many, as almost a foregone conclusion, participated in some sort of study abroad program and, even if taking courses only on campus, have been in classes with an increasingly diverse international student body.  Most have not only gone to school and worked, but also participated in the myriad of community service events sponsored through classes and other University organizations.

Some will enter the workforce now.  Increasing numbers will pursue an MBA in attempt to gain a competitive edge.  And, like their predecessors, most are ready, willing, and able to make their mark on the world and their presence felt.  And, like their fellow Missouri State Marketing alumni colleagues, it’s a sure bet that they will succeed in doing just that.  Congratulations on a job well done!

Reflections

Dr. Luke

If recent statistics hold true, 90 percent of our graduates will have a meaningful job within 90 days of graduation.  This is a strong statistic and kudos should be given to our faculty, staff, programs, and quality of students.  Many of these successful students were recently honored at the Annual COBA Awards Banquet. >More

Alumnus Action

Pamela Anderson

Marketing alum Pamela Anderson is living proof that non-traditional students can, and do, succeed. “It wasn’t an easy path, but it was well worth the time and effort,” says Anderson.  Despite a few interruptions along the way, this returning student not only went on to get a Bachelor's degree in Marketing in 1995, but also a Master's in Communications in 1997. >More
