Language to Study

About Our Courses

  • Language courses (ARB, CHI, FRN, GRK, GRM, JPN, LTN, PTG, HBW, RUS, SPN) are designed to give students the fundamentals of each language and to introduce them to the culture and literature of the people who speak and write that language.
  • Literature in Translation courses (LLT) offer extensive insights into a number of cultures and are taught entirely in English.
  • Study Away opportunities include intensive Spanish programs in Mexico and Spain. An intensive French program in Quebec is offered during the summer. Other study abroad opportunities are available through University College.

Placement Examinations

  • The department offers credit-by-examination for placement for French, German, and Spanish courses of 101, 102, and 201.  Credit is given provided the student takes the computerized Placement Examination before taking any University French, German, or Spanish classes and completes the highest level of placement with a minimum grade of 'B'.  Credit will then be awarded, upon application to the department, for courses in the same language below the placement level.
  • On-line placement exams are available to Missouri State University students.  Go to Placement test.
  • For information, contact the department secretary, (417) 836-5122, or drop by 223 Siceluff Hall.
