Study Away

The university’s faculty and administration encourage our students to diversify their educational and cultural experiences. In order to stimulate this diversification, the university offers many courses that deal with other cultures. We have minors and majors that allow students to specialize in other cultures and civilizations. We also offer study away opportunities so that our students can experience first-hand what other cultures are like. Following is a synopsis of the study away programs which are offered through Missouri State. Financial aid and scholarships may be applied toward the cost of programs.

Missouri London Program

As a member of the Missouri Consortium for International Programs and Studies, Missouri State sends students and faculty to study and teach each fall, spring and summer semester in London. Students live and study in the Kensington area and receive academic credit directly from Missouri State. Courses offered vary from semester to semester and are taught by participating faculty from member institutions and by British nationals.

Reciprocal Student Exchanges

Students pay Missouri State tuition and fees to study at host institutions. Transfer of credit is arranged through the International Programs and Affairs office. Coursework is offered across the curriculum.

Australia Exchange, Ballarat University, Ballarat, Victoria

Semester or year program. Ballarat is located west of Melbourne and is an old gold mining center.

Australia Exchange, University of Tasmania, Hobart, Tasmania

Semester or year program. Hobart is located on the island of Tasmania, a state of Australia.

Germany Exchange, Philipps-Universität, Marburg, Germany

Magellan Exchange, Host Institutions in Austria, Germany, Spain, Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Mexico and United Kingdom

Semester or year program. Students study business classes taught in English in an international setting. Living arrangements are at the student’s expense.

International Student Exchange Program (ISEP)

Students may study at member institutions in more than 39 countries around the world. Students pay Missouri State academic fees and Missouri State room and board and are provided with the same benefits at their host institutions. Programs are offered at their host institutions in English, as well as in French, Spanish, German and several other foreign languages. Transfer of credit is arranged through the International Programs and Affairs office. Coursework is offered across the curriculum.

National Student Exchange (NSE)

Students may study at more than 190 member institutions across the U.S., Canada and its territories. Students pay Missouri State tuition and fees or in-state fees to the host institution for a semester or a year. Transfer of credit is arranged through the International Programs and Affairs office. Coursework is offered across the curriculum.

Summer Intensive Language Programs

Students may study French in Canada, or Spanish in a variety of countries, in summer programs that are four to six weeks in duration. Students are enrolled in a local university or language institute and experience “total immersion” in the language. Transfer of credit is arranged through the International Programs and Affairs office.

Short-Term Study Programs

These programs (usually faculty-led) are offered across the curriculum in various sites throughout the world. Students earn Missouri State University academic credit.
