Scholarships and Financial Aid

Graduate resources

A limited number of graduate assistantships are available through the department which pays a stipend and offers tuition fee waivers. There are other assistantships and scholarships available on campus.

Additional university scholarships

You may also qualify for additional university-wide scholarships or financial aid. The office of student financial aid provides information about university scholarshipsgrants and loans.

Florence Baker Bugg Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded to a prospective or current outstanding Physical Education major or a related field Incoming freshman may be considered. Must be full-time student.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Reba S. Sims Physical Education Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or greater majoring in Physical Education with an overall GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to those students that have been involved in MSU or area athletic programs as an assistant coach, student manager, or officiater. Awards will be made with regard to financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

George Salmon Memorial Handball Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and values dependent on the availability of funding, but awards are generally $500 - $1,000.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Students should apply through the online General and Departmental Scholarship Application, but ultimate selection will be based on the selection of the Handball Coach.

Selection criteria

Awarded to a full-time student based on performance in handball competitions and expressed desire to compete in National Collegiate Handball Tournament. Sophomore or greater must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Kinesiology Department Scholarship Fund

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time sophomore or greater seeking a degree in the Kinesiology Department with a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Larry and Marilyn Pemberton Endowed Fund

Selection criteria

Student must be a graduate student seeking a degree in the Kinesiology Department(Health Promotion, Secondary Education - Physical Education, and Sports Management) with a cumulative GPA of 3.8. Final decision should be based on faculty members on the selection committee that have reviewed research efforts by the student and determined them to be above average.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Coach and Mrs. Andy J. McDonald Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded to a full-time student that is a Physical Education major. For incoming freshmen consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential, and leadership. When awarded to a sophomore or higher, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.25 and a GPA of 3.25 in physical education.

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Recreation, Sport, and Park Administration Scholarship Fund

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time sophomore or greater seeking a degree in the Recreation, Sport and Park Administration program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Mildred Bailey Evans Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded to students enrolled as Physical Education majors with an interest in Elementary Education.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Shirley J. Frye Cummins Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a graduating Physical Education major for post-graduate study in Physical Education or a similar field at any institution. Must have an overall GPA of 2.75 and a GPA of 2.90 in Physical Education. Involvement in campus and community activities required. Must demonstrate financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Dr. Nancy L. Curry Endowed Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior Physical Education major or Coaching minor. Student must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and preference should go to those demonstrating financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal.
