Certification and Registration
Upon completion of this online program you will need to certify that you have completed the training through an online registration process that requires your Missouri State University User ID and password. Please make sure that you have these prior to starting the training. When you have successfully completed the training, click on the Certify Course Completion link to complete your certification process. You will be prompted to complete the following information online.
- Missouri Sate University Faculty, Staff Employee, or Students: Please select the appropriate radio button for your status and then the Generate your certificate button to access your log in screen. (Do not select Guest or Volunteer and complete the information under the Guest or Volunteer area.) At the Log In screen you be prompted to enter your Missouri State University Windows user ID and password. After you have entered your user ID and password and selected the Log In button a Missouri State University computer generated certificated should appear with the course information, your name, and the completion date that you can print off for your records. The University's training database is also updated at the same time with your completion information when you have generated a certificated.
- Guest or Volunteers: This feature is provided to support our community partners who use some our training programs for professional development. Please select the Guest or Volunteer radio button and then complete the Name and Affiliation information in the manner you will want it to appear on your certificate. This information is not stored in our database for retrieval at a later date. Please print off your certificate for your records.

Listed below are resources that provide additional information on the policies and procedures for safeguarding the security and integrity of EPHI and for implementing the HIPAA Security Rule:
- The Missouri State Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Security Manual which is a "How -To" Implementation Guide for Unit Security Officers and members of covered entities. This document is in draft format.
- The National Institute of Standards and Technology Special (NIST) Publication 800-30 - "Risk Management Guide for Information Technology Systems". Chapter 3 of this publication outlines the Risk Assessment process required for compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule. Figure 3-1 on page 9 of this document illustrates the risk assessment process in a an easy to follow flowchart. This chapter and flowchart will assist the Unit Security Officers in conducting and documenting risk analysis process and findings for their individual units.
- The National Institute of Standards and Technology Special (NIST) Publication 800-66 - "An Introductory Resource Guide for Implementing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Security Rule".

Information and Equipment Support for Training
Individuals who are required to complete the Missouri State HIPAA Security Training program and do not have access to a computer in their work area will be able to utilize the Computer Services Training Facility located in Cheek 100.
