Missouri State University is committed to supporting the welfare of its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Preparing a campus crisis/emergency response plan and allocating resources to respond to possible emergencies is one way in which the University offers this support. The following training programs support both personal and professional development for employees. These programs are provided by the Office of Human Resources with the support of Safety and Transportation, Counseling and Testing, the Center for Dispute and Resolution, and Campus Recreation. The complete University's Emergency Response Plan is located online with the Employee Quick Reference for Emergency Response Procedures available for download as a deskside reference for employees.
The curriculum of the Prepare Training is designed to support employees at all levels of responsibility in the execution of all phases of emergency response to include preventive, response, and recovery. The strategies in this course are designed to help reduce frequency and severity of crisis situations. Participants acquire the skills to effectively respond to anxious, irrational, angry, hostile, or potentially dangerous behavior, and minimize the negative impact of challenging encounters. The program consists of three components training: the foundation course which addresses respect, service, and safety in the workplace, an overview of the University's Emergency Response Plan presented by Safety, and a session presented by Counseling and Testing titled "Recognizing Students in Distress." The focus of the program is to provide faculty and staff with practical approaches to workplace safety issues, information on University resources available for assistance in resolving situations, and an overview of the University's Emergency Response Plan.
