You can locate and register for this program online through My Learning Connection, located in My Missouri State, and search under the "Professional Development" category.  Registration for the MSU Administrative Excellence Certificate Program  will be open in My Learning Connection on December 2, 2015.  

Overview

Administrative professionals play a vital role in the operations of MissouriStateUniversity.  It is a position that requires high professional and ethical standards, the ability to deal with varied responsibilities and strong communication, interpersonal and organzational skills. 

The Office of HR Employee Development & Performance (EDP) has partnered with the Management Development Institute (MDI) to bring you a professional development opportunity to enhance your current administrative and personal skills by obtaining your Administrative Excellence Certificate.  The Certificate will provide a strong knowledge base to handle your position with increased confidence, authority and professionalism.

Who Should Participate?

All levels of administrative assistants and support staff who are responsible for the administrative functions within the University. The Certificate will provide an update of current information for those professionals with years of experience, or serve as a career development track for those new to the field. Seminars can also count toward CAP recertification.

Program Requirements

The Administrative Excellence Certificate consists of the core course Excelling as an Administrative Professional plus an additional 5 one-day seminars.  Four of these seminars are offered through the Management Development Institute (MDI) and two are instructed by HR Employee Development & Performance (EDP).   Employees muct successfully complete all programs to earn certificate.

Excelling as an Administrative Professional

Administrative professionals often underestimate their impact within an organization because their leadership role is that of leadership through support.  With new technologies and changing organizational climates, expectations are increasing in job responsibilities and job performance. This seminar will focus on overall administrative leadership, management principles and the expansion of professionalism in this dynamic profession. Develop new tools and skills to enable you to be a proactive member of the organization.

Managing People, Paper, & Projects

Do you have more to do than you can manage in a 40-hour work week?  Do you feel that if you want something done right you have to do it yourself?  Do you ever find yourself having to "redo" work not done right the first time? If you answered yes to these questions, you could be holding yourself, your employees, and your work group back from reaching their maximum potential. Improve your skills in delegation, managing your time and setting goals so you can work more efficiently. 

Bear Business for Administrative Professionals

Bear Business is a one day seminar which is designed to provide you with a greater understanding of your professional role within the organization, vital institutional knowledge that will assist you in your day to day responsibilities, and information on the functions of other departments within the University system. You will have an opportunity to visit different departments and learn about campus life from a student, facuty, and an employee perspective.

Acheiving Results Without Authority

As more companies reorganize along horizontal rather than vertical lines, the need emerges for those in non-authoritative positions to encourage action from others to achieve business objectives and manage projects.  Cultivating positive influence, cooperation and negotiation skills are essential for anyone who needs to get work done though others.  This seminar examines principles, strategies, and techniques essential to influencing through persuasion and negotiation to achieve positive results.
