Program Requirements

The Department of Hospitality Leadership offers two degrees, a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Applied Science. Both programs prepare students for managerial positions in hotels, restaurants, resorts, casinos, institutional food service, catering and many other areas.

The Bachelor of Science offers specialization in the following tracks:


Hospitality Leadership (Comprehensive) (BS)

Bachelor of Science

Major requirements (54-55 hours):

Major core (45-46 hours):

Note: Three hours may double count toward General Education requirements.

  1. Specific General Education Requirement: GRY 100(3).
  2. HSP 210(2), 215(3), 218(3), HSP 220(2) or ACC 201(3); HSP 230(2), 310(3), 321(3), 354(3), 410(3), 426(3), 428(3), 480(3), 490(3), 499(6).
  3. Public Affairs Capstone Experience will be fulfilled by completion of HSP 490(3) and 499(6).
  4. Electives to bring total number of hours to 120. Students are encouraged to use these hours to complete more than one option and to take HSP electives.
Complete one of the following options:
Club Management option (9 hours):
  1. HSP 330(3), 345(3); HSP 430(3) or 436(3).
Food and Beverage option (9 hours):
  1. HSP 330(3), 409(3), 435(3).
General Operations option (9 hours):
  1. HSP 340(3); HSP 430(3) or 436(3); HSP 315(3) or 370(3) or 435(3).
Lodging option (9 hours):
  1. HSP 315(3), 360(3), 370(3).
Senior Living Management option (9 hours):
  1. HSP 330(3); GER 366(3) or PSY 366(3); GER 375(3) or SOC 375(3).
Tourism option (9 hours):
  1. GRY 310(3), GRY 510(3); HSP 340(3).
