Honors College Faculty Recognized at University’s Annual Awards Ceremony
On May 7th, Missouri State University honored the scholastic and professional accomplishments of its faculty members during the 2012 All-Faculty Recognition Reception. Honors College professors were featured prominently and it is our pleasure to highlight below their outstanding achievements during the 2011-2012 academic year.
Director’s Award for Outstanding Faculty Research
The Director’s Award for Outstanding Faculty Research acknowledges the exceptional research accomplishments of MSU’s Honors College faculty. This award recognizes a faculty member’s research excellence and is meant to acknowledge those Honors College professors who serve as the best example of the ideal scholar/teacher who has not only made a significant contribution to their own field of research, but who have also helped to expand the growth and development of honors education at MSU. Director’s Award recipients have made major contributions to their own research fields and have participated in the ongoing success of the Missouri State University Honors College.

Curtis P. Lawrence Master Teacher Award
The Curtis P. Lawrence Master Teacher Award is offered to one Honors College faculty member who is exclusively nominated by Honors College students and chosen by an Honors College student committee in collaboration with the Honors College administrative staff. The award was created in honor of the first Director of Missouri State University’s Honors College, Dr. Curtis P. Lawrence. This award is offered to recognize excellence in honors teaching and mentoring by a Missouri State University Honors College faculty member.

Marcia Morriset Award for Outstanding Service to Honors Education
The Marcia Morriset Award for Outstanding Service to Honors Education recognizes the exceptional service, mentoring and advising accomplishments of MSU’s Honors College faculty and affiliated staff. The award was created in recognition of Marcia Morriset’s many years of service to the Honors College. The award is presented to a faculty or staff member who has contributed broadly to the advancement of honors education at Missouri State University and has excelled at undergraduate mentorship and advising of Honors College students.

Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching
The Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching is based on effective teaching, innovative course design and delivery, effective advising, service to the University community, commitment to high standards of excellence and success in nurturing student achievement. The annual award is presented by the governor of Missouri and the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education.

Foundation Awards for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Service
The Foundation Awards are presented annually to full-time faculty members in recognition of excellence in the areas of teaching, research and/or creative activities and service. Their accomplishments epitomize the University’s efforts to become a nationally acclaimed university, admired for the quality of its academic programs, the influence of its research and scholarship, the achievements of its students, faculty and staff, and the impact of its many service efforts.
