2005 HLC Self-Study Steering Committee
Review of May 19, 2005 Meeting

Members Present: John Catau, Bill Cheek, Frank Einhellig, Etta Madden, Vic Matthews, Pete Richardson, Roger Sell, Don Simpson, and GA Linda Rogers.

The steering committee met at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, May 19th at the ADC Office.

Bill provided members with a copy of the response from the Educational Technology Center. There will probably be some information contained in their response that we will want to incorporate into the final report so Bill requested that everyone look over the report and see what needs to be included.

Bill also passed out some questions that Sue George had sent regarding the organization of the Resource Room. These questions covered such topics as how much information needs to be available in paper form, how far ahead of the site visit will the team members need electronic access, how should the resource room be organized, etc. Some of the questions had immediate answers, but others will provide food for thought as we set up the resource room over the next few months.

A very rough draft of the compiled subcommittee reports was distributed to the members. Homework for the next two weeks will be to review the reports and make suggestions as to content – what might be missing as well as what is perceived to be redundant. Some major topics – planning for the future and the University Mission will be relevant to each of the themes, and so will occur over and over, but they should be presented each time in a new light that reflects each individual theme. Committee members are asked to jot down notes and comments as they review the report, then compile these notes to present to the committee as a whole in two weeks. At that point, the writing committee will take over and begin to edit the report. We should have a good draft finished by July 1^st; the final report needs to be submitted to the site team by mid-September.

Roger reported that Missouri State University will be joining the CBHE effort to measure value-added education, and that this development will need to be discussed in the report. It was decided that a discussion of this issue would belong under "concerns" as the committee sees some potential problems arising for the University should they join this problem.

Bill has received summer schedules from most of the committee members and will be determining a time for the weekly meetings. He will send an announcement out later this week as to a time for next week’s meeting.
