2005 HLC Self-Study Steering Committee
Review of July 7, 2004 Meeting
Members Present: Barbara Bushman, John Catau,
Bill Cheek, Thomas Dicke, Frank Einhellig, Sue George, Tammy Jahnke, Martha
Kirker, Etta Madden, Pete Richardson, Roger Sell, and Don Simpson
Bill Cheek reported that the HLC had notified us
that it had received our self study and would be sending some comments soon.
Bill will be on the AAA agenda for August to
update them on the accreditation effort.
Sue George presented subcommittee information on
committee charges for Criterion Two. Aspects of the history of the University
will not be in the study per se, but readers will be referred to the Centennial
book. Questions in all charges will be worded so that they are not in a yes/no
format and the instructions will explain the type of answers desired. The word
"technology" will be interpreted in the broadest sense for purposes of the self
study. There was a lot of discussion about criterion 2B and a few wording
changes were suggested.
John Catau went over his letter of instructions
to go out to groups with their charges. The letter includes an introduction, the
mission, charges, and the criteria and their core components. The letter is
ready to send.
The group discussed the use of the presidential
search process as a type of evidence that the University mission is playing a
role in the job description and type of person being sought for the position.
The meeting for Wednesday, July 14 was cancelled
for the group as a whole. Instead, Bill, Tammy, and possibly some others would
meet Monday to set up the "Charge Matrix" and then on Wednesday at the usual
time Bill, Tammy, Pete, and maybe others would meet to begin filling in the
matrix with various group charges.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:40.
Respectfully submitted by Pete Richardson
