Introduction to the Fashion Program

INTRODUCTION

Can you transfer a love of clothing into a successful career in the fashion industry?  Of course you can.  Missouri State can help you attain this goal with a solid general education, a bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising or Fashion Design/Product Development, and your dedicated efforts.

Our Fashion Merchandising graduates are successfully employed as buyers, retail managers, fashion coordinators, manufacturers' representatives and business owners.

Fashion Design/Product Development majors take courses in clothing construction, flat pattern making, draping, and computer-aided design.  Design and Product Development graduates are employed as designers, pattern makers, visual merchandisers, and business owners.

FAS prepares students for professional excellence in design and business by providing an exceptional educational experience that fosters creativity and career focus from a world perspective, impacting global economic and cultural lives. To implement this mission, FAS provides courses through multiple delivery systems, applied experiences, and scholarly activities that prepare students for careers in apparel design, product development, technical design, retail buying, management, and entrepreneurship. The FAS Program anticipates and reflects the changing needs of a global society, diverse clientele, and industry standards. By bringing together enthusiastic and experienced faculty with varied industry and academic experiences, an environment that nurtures student development is encouraged. Emphasis is placed on teaching, advising, hands-on application of theory, scholarly activities and creative endeavors, and service to prepare leaders and citizens of the future.
