Scholarships and Financial Aid

Our department and the College of Business offer a number of scholarships for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in finance or general business. These scholarships are designed to support your studies at Missouri State and reward excellence in both the community and the classroom.

You may also qualify for additional University-wide scholarships or financial aid. The office of financial aid provides information about University scholarships, grants and loans.

The finance and general business department also offers a limited number of graduate assistantships for students pursuing a master’s degree in a related field.

Edward Linski Memorial Scholarship

Value

A single $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

This scholarship considers financial need. Please submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) preferably by Feb. 15.

Selection criteria

will be awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student properly enrolled at Missouri State University with a declared major in the College of Business. The scholarship will be awarded with regard for financial need and students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Students must self-identify as having lost a parent, with preference given for students seeking degrees in Finance and General Business in the College of Business.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Jack Henry & Associates, Inc COB Scholarship Fund

Value

Six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded annually.

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to undergraduate students majoring in Computer Information Systems, Finance, or Accounting.  Students must have completed 30 hours of credit and maintained an overall GPA of 3.0.  Student must also submit an essay on their merit.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Ronald and Carol Bottin Scholarship

Value

A single $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student seeking a degree in either Accounting, Finance, or Management. Incoming freshman will be considered based on high school academic performance and leadership, while current students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference should go to non-traditional, working, single parents.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

W. H. Jr. and Earlene Coleman Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one to two $1,000 scholarships are awarded.

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time student pursuing a career in insurance. Juniors or greater must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0. First preference to students from the six-county greater Kansas City area.  All else equal, preference given based on financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Vencil J. Bixler Professional Insurance Scholarship/Award

Value

At least one $500 scholarship awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time student that is seeking a major or minor in the field of Insurance and Risk Management or an MBA with an emphasis in the field. Student should have completed the basic insurance courses and enrolled in two additional courses in the field.  Must be person of demonstrable integrity and leadership that has sat and passed one of the following: CLU, ChFC, CPCU, or CFP.  Undergraduates must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and graduates must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2. Preferably will go to an active member of Gamma Iota Sigma.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

State Farm-Baker Chair of Insurance Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one $500 scholarship is awarded.

Application

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time student either majoring or minoring in Insurance and Risk Management that plans to pursue a career in the field.  Student must demonstrate leadership and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75. Preference should be given to those in Gamma Iota Sigma.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Robert L. Sanditz, CLU, Insurance Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one $250 - $500 scholarship is awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student seeking a degree or a minor in Insurance and plans to pursue a career in the field.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5.  Preference given to sophomores or greater that are eligible to take advance insurance courses.  Preference given to those who are active in a professional insurance organization, such as Gamma Iota Sigma.  Must demonstrate leadership and character.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Robert and Edith I. Garst Scholarship (Baker Chair of Insurance)

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally three to four $1,000 scholarships are awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior majoring or minoring in Insurance and Risk Management and seeking a career in those fields.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75.  Preference given to those enrolled or those that have completed an advanced insurance and risk management course. Must demonstrate leadership and character.  Preference for those in professional insurance organizations, such as Gamma Iota Sigma.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Risk/Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Ozarks Chapter Annual Scholarship

Value

One $1,000 scholarship awarded.

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior pursuing a career in the risk management insurance field, demonstrated by a major or minor in insurance and risk management.  Student must have an overall GPA of 3.0.  Student must have completed at least one insurance and risk management course or be currently enrolled in such a course.  Student must be a member of the local RIMS Ozarks Area Chapter.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Scholarship - Ozark Area Chapter

Value

Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded annually.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a junior or senior that is an Insurance and Risk Management major or Insurance minor that demonstrates academic excellence and has completed or is enrolled in risk management or insurance courses.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Retha S. Baker - Baker Chair of Insurance Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally three to four $1,000 - $2,000 scholarships are awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time sophomore or less Insurance and Risk Management major.  Incoming freshman must have a high school GPA of 2.75, and current students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75.  Transfer Students with less than 80 hours will also be considered, but must meet the same GPA requirements. Preference should be given to members of Gamma Iota Sigma.  First preference should be given to incoming freshman.  If no eligible candidates arise, upper-division Insurance majors may also be considered.

Ozark Chapter Society of CPCU Scholarship

Value

At least one $500 scholarship awarded.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a junior or senior Insurance major or minor. Completion of one insurance and risk management course and continued current enrollment in advanced insurance and risk management courses.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors - Springfield Scholarship

Value

At least one $500 scholarship awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior majoring or minoring in Insurance.  Must demonstrate academic excellence.  Preference given to those interested in a career in life insurance.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

MO PRIMA Risk Management Scholarship

Value

One $1,000 scholarship awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior majoring or minoring in Insurance. Must demonstrate leadership, be involved in extracurricular activities, and submit a letter of recommendation from faculty within the Finance and General Business Department.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Missouri Insurance Education Foundation Scholarship

Value

At least one $500 scholarship awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior majoring in Finance with an Insurance emphasis or minor.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5. Preference given based on financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Missouri Employers Mutual Scholarship for Risk Management and Insurance

Value

One $1,000 scholarship awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

This scholarship considers financial need. Please submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) preferably by Feb. 15.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time Junior or Senior majoring in Insurance and Risk Management with a cumulative GPA of 3.0.  Awards made with regard for financial need.  In the case no applicants meet requirements, consideration will be made for Insurance and Risk Management minors meeting the same criteria.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Manley Real Estate Scholarship

Value

At least one $500 scholarship awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a junior or senior Real Estate major or minor with plans to pursue a career in Real Estate. Must have part-time employment and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Student must demonstrate leadership and character.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

John E. Patton Outstanding Student Leadership Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one $1,000 scholarship is awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time senior majoring in Insurance and Risk Management with a departmental GPA of 3.0.  Must show leadership demonstrated on campus or in the community.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

John E. and Mary Jo Patton Insurance Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one $500 - $1,000 scholarship is awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to full-time student majoring or minoring in Insurance and Risk Management with a cumulative GPA of 2.5. Preference given to those that are eligible for advanced insurance courses. Preference given to students active in professional insurance organizations.  Must demonstrate leadership and character. Preference given to members of professional insurance organizations such as Gamma Iota Sigma.

Renewal criteria

Insurance Association of the Ozarks Scholarship

Value

One $500 scholarship awarded.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior majoring or minoring in Insurance or Risk Management. Student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Heim Young Aspiring Financial Planner Scholarship

Value

One $1,000 scholarship awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate senior seeking a degree in Finance with a Financial Planning Emphasis.  The student must be a senior that will take classes in both the Fall and Spring semester. Student must demonstrate leadership on campus and in the community, and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a departmental GPA of 3.2.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Greater Springfield Board of Realtors Career Development Award

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one $1,000 scholarship is awarded.

Application

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a Senior Finance major with a Real Estate option with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Student must demonstrate self-support through employment, leadership, and character.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

G. Clair Plank, CLU, ChFC, MSFS Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one $500 - $1,000 scholarship is awarded.

Application

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time sophomore or greater Insurance and Risk Management major. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75.  Preference for student who has completed one insurance and risk  management course and who has continued current enrollment in advanced insurance or risk management courses. Preference should be given to members of Gamma Iota Sigma. Preference also given to those that have earned insurance designations.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Floyd L. and Martha L. Sweeney Scholarship for Real Estate Studies

Value

At least one $1,000 scholarship awarded.

Application

This scholarship considers financial need. Please submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) preferably by Feb. 15.

Selection criteria

Scholarships of at least $1,000 will be awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students majoring in the Finance and General Business Department.  Student must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA and must demonstrate financial need.  First preference will be given to Student Athletes majoring in Finance with a Real Estate option.  Second preference will be given to students majoring in Finance with a Real Estate option.  Third preference will be given to students seeking a degree in Finance and General Business.  Preference will also be given to students that are junior or seniors and are from the state of Missouri.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Financial Management Association (FMA) Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one $250 - $500 scholarship is awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time student that is an active member of Financial Management Association that has been active for at least one semester. Consideration based on participation in Financial Management Association, leadership potential, additional extracurricular activities, and academic ability.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Dr. John S. Bowdidge Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one $250 - $500 scholarship is awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

This scholarship considers financial need. Please submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) preferably by Feb. 15.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time sophomore or greater with at least 30 credit hours completed majoring in the Finance and General Business Department.  Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and financial need. Preference given to non-traditional student or a student with an interest in international business.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

David L. Hadler, Energy Insurance Mutual Risk Management & Insurance Scholarship

Value

At least one $1,000 scholarship awarded.

Selection criteria

A single $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time student pursuing a major in Risk Management and Insurance.  The student must be a junior or senior and have completed at least one Risk Management/Insurance course and be currently enrolled in or have completed an advanced Risk Management/Insurance class.  Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

CPCU Society of St. Louis Insurance Scholarships

Value

One $1,000 scholarship awarded.

Application

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student seeking a degree in Insurance and Risk Management that has completed 30 credit hours and has a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Century Bank of the Ozarks Banking Scholarship

Value

One $1,000 scholarship awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior majoring in Finance with an emphasis in Banking with a cumulative GPA of 3.2.  First preference for students from Ozark or Douglas Counties in Missouri.  Second preference for students from the 24 County Area served by Missouri State University.  Third preference for students from the state of Missouri.  Must demonstrate leadership and character.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

BKD Wealth Advisors Aspiring Chartered Financial Analyst Scholarship

Value

At least one $500 scholarship awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or greater majoring in Finance or seeking an M.B.A with an intention to take the CFA Level 1 Exam in December of the year of award or June of the following year. Undergraduates must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5.  Graduates must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.5 and a graduate GPA of 3.7.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Baker Insurance Chair Scholarship (William G. and Retha Stone Baker)

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one $500 - $1,000 scholarship is awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time student majoring or minoring in Insurance and Risk Management with a desire to pursue a career in the field with a cumulative GPA of 2.75.  Preference will go to those with under 56 hours. Incoming freshmen considered based on high school academic performance.  Preference given to members of professional insurance organizations, such as Gamma Iota Sigma.  Must submit letters of recommendation detailing their leadership and character.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

American National Property and Casualty Companies Actuarial/Insurance Scholarship

Value

One $1,000 scholarship awarded.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior Mathematics major with Actuarial Mathematics option and Insurance minor OR Insurance/Risk Management major with Mathematics minor and Actuarial Science emphasis.  Preference given to students that have completed one or more national examinations leading to a professional insurance designation.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and demonstrate leadership and character.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

American Family Insurance Scholarship

Value

Number of awards and their values will be dependent upon funding but generally one $500 - $1,000 scholarship is awarded.

Application

St. Louis Chapter of the Risk and Insurance Management Society Scholarship

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior majoring or minoring in Insurance and Risk Management with an interest in pursuing a career in the field.
