In the Spring 2010 semester, the FCTL will be hosting a bi-weekly discussion around the book “What the Best College Teachers Do” by Ken Bain. This book discussion network, open to full time and part-time faculty, staff, and graduate students will discuss the various chapters of the book and provide an informal forum to share best practices around teaching and learning.
The meeting time proposed for this networking group is either Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 or Fridays from 3:15 to 4:15, beginning either Thursday January 21st or Friday January 22nd. If you are interested in participating in this book discussion networking group indicate the most convenient time for you. If you are unable to attend at those times, but would like to participate, please fill in the alternative time box. The schedule is still flexible at this point.
This book discussion networking group will culminate with the 15th Annual What the Best College Teachers Do International Summer Institute in the New York City Area, June 16-18, 2010. The FCTL will send two active members of the networking group to the Summer Institute. If you are interested in attending the Summer Institute and can commit to being an active member of the book discussion networking group, let us know now!! Early bird registration ends January 20th. The FCTL will cover the cost of the attendance to the Summer Institute for the two selected participants. This will include the registration fee, the flight, and the hotel room. The registration includes some meals. To be considered, please submit a one-page letter of interest outlining why you want to be part of the book discussion networking group, why you want to attend the Summer Institute, and how you will benefit from this experience to Chantal Levesque-Bristol, Director, Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning by January 15th, 2010.
