The University Safety & Transportation Department fosters a safe and secure environment for the university community through professional services in law enforcement, security, crime prevention/education, and traffic/parking with an emphasis on community policing concepts.

Emergency Response Plan

The Campus Crisis Management and Emergency Operations Plan is put into effect whenever a crisis, man-made or natural, disrupts operations, threatens life, creates major damage, or occurs within the University community and its surroundings. While it is likely that outside assistance would be available in most large–scale crisis/emergency situations affecting the University. The University must be prepared for crisis situations affecting the University and must be prepared to carry out crisis response and short-term recovery operations on an independent basis.

Missouri State Alert

Missouri State Alert is the University's mass notification system, which uses a variety of methods to contact students, faculty and staff in the event of an emergency or school closing.

How Missouri State Alert Works: During an urgent situation, the Missouri State Alert system will cycle through contact methods listed for your account to deliver the alert, starting with the first available. When you receive the message, it is very important that you confirm receipt when prompted. If no confirmation is received, Missouri State Alert will continue cycling through your points of contact. Registration for Missouri State Alert is completely voluntary; however, because of their unique responsibilities, the following relatively small number of individuals will be required to register for the Missouri State Alert system: all members of Administrative Council, Associate Provosts, Academic Deans, Academic Department Heads, all Building Coordinators, selected Residential Life Staff members, and Public Safety Officers

Severe Weather Alert

Missouri State University Severe Weather Storm Warning System utilizes exterior sirens and interior sirens located in some of the Residence Halls. These sirens are not to be confused with the fire alarm in a building. The sirens are controlled from a master control unit located in the Radio Communications Center of Safety & Transportation at 636 E. Elm. Once notified of a dangerous severe weather storm warning the sirens will be activated.
