Welcome to Missouri State University

Dr. Art Spisak, Associate Provost for FacultyDear New Faculty Member:

As the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs I have the pleasure of welcoming you to Missouri State. We have some very accomplished faculty here and are glad you have chosen to become part of that group. Staff and administrators in the Office of the Provost as well as in the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning are committed to helping you make the transition to Missouri State and working with you over the years to achieve your goals. Faculty at Missouri State are noted for their collegiality, and you will find many of them in your department and college willing to assist you. I look forward to meeting with you at New Faculty Orientation and coming to know you better over the years.

The week before Fall 2009 classes begin (on Monday, August 24) the Office of the Provost will host New Faculty Orientation on August 17-18 (Monday – Tuesday) an important event for all new faculty. New Faculty Orientation begins with a half-day program with staff from the Office of Human Resources. This program covers benefits and retirement information. A second full-day program is designed by the Office of the Provost to acquaint faculty with the University’s mission and to assist in their preparation for success in teaching, research, and service.

Special guests will include the Deans, Faculty Senate Chair, Director of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning, and representatives of various faculty and classroom support areas. A list of academic development opportunities for the year will be made available to all new faculty members at the orientation as part of a continuous process throughout the academic year. For more information, contact Mary Lynne Golden in the Office of the Provost at 836-5022.
