Curriculum Innovation Research Projects
General Purpose and Scope:
These mini-grants provide support for faculty projects and activities which lead to improvements in the quality of instruction and new or innovative teaching and learning practices. Results should demonstrate measurable outcomes from the work or activity that will directly contribute to student learning at Missouri State University. These projects should be transformational in nature and also have the potential for the teaching and learning practices explored during the project to be to be examined and applied to other disciplines.
Project proposals should include a statement of the problem or a goal statement, projected itemization of expenses, approach and planned methodology for the project and any findings, and dissemination of these results to peers both within the university and beyond in terms of publications or professional presentations.
Awards will be for projects and activities conducted during the 2012-2013 academic year. All recipients are expected to meet once with the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning. Recipients are expected to share their project with the MSU instructional community as follows:
- One progress report presented to the FCTL Advisory Committee,
- A formal presentation of the project and results presented at the Showcase on Teaching and Learning held August 14, 2013,
- Final report with the results of the project submitted by August 30, 2013.
Two classifications of Curriculum Innovation Projects:
Curriculum Innovation Project
These funds are intended to provide support for an individual faculty or group to assist with instructional materials, equipment or software, travel, supplies or other resources necessary to develop and research innovative curricular practices. Projects will be funded up to $5,000. Sustainability of these new practices will be given consideration in the application review process.
Diversity & Inclusion in the Curriculum
One project will be dedicated to the Cultural Competence pillar of our public affairs mission. The purpose of this project is to integrate diversity and inclusion into the daily classroom curriculum in order to focus on the goal, “Students will recognize and respect multiple perspectives and cultures.”
Funds are intended to provide support and assistance with acquiring instructional materials, equipment or software, travel, supplies or other resources necessary for the project. Projects will be funded up to $5,000.
Any faculty member is eligible to apply for funding for Curriculum Innovation Research Projects. Per course instructors and adjuncts can submit an application as long as they collaborate on the project with at least one full time faculty members. Faculty members will not be funded for more than one project per funding cycle.
Submission Guidelines and Deadlines:
Written proposals should be between 1,500 – 2,000 words and include:
- Cover sheet including name of project, type of project (Curriculum Innovation or Diversity & Inclusion in the Curriculum), faculty name, department, contact information, and date.
- Purpose of the project
- Learning outcomes to be addressed, if applicable
- Methodology and instructional practices
- Student assessment plan
Curriculum Innovation proposals should be submitted electronically to the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning fctl@MissouriState.edu no later than October 31, 2012.
Application Review Process:
Proposals will be reviewed by the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee. Award recipients will be notified in November.

Final reports for Curriculum Innovation and Diversity & Inclusion in the Curriculum projects are due August 30, 2013. Written reports should include:
- Cover sheet
- Purpose of project
- Conclusion including future plans
