Missouri State University

Services

Assistive Technology Services at Missouri State University (MSU) provides a wide range of assistive technology and adaptive computer technology  services.  Assistive Technology services are provided to qualified students, faculty, and staff at  MSU only upon proper referral (see referral procedures) to Assistive Technology Services and following an initial assessment by the Assistive Technology Specialist.

AT Training and Support

Each client is required to participate in individualized training for any newly prescribed AT resource that is provided by the university.  Training may be as brief as a few minutes to several days or even weeks--depending on the complexity of the technology and the client's familiarity with the specific intervention.  In addition, all active clients of Assistive Technology Services are entitled to receive follow-up training and support for any AT resources provided to them by the university.  Additional training is available upon request by the client or referral source.

 In Class Accommodations

Assistive Technology Services maintains an extensive inventory of circulating adaptive computers and other technology-based disability accommodations.  These are available for placement in classroom or instructional labs (computer-based or otherwise) for an entire semester or as required on a periodic basis.  These accommodations are available only for students who have an active case with and have been certified for such support by either Disability Services or the Learning Diagnostic Clinic.

Braille

Assistive Technology Services is responsible for transcribing and  preparing all Braille format documentation on campus.  This service is available to students, faculty, or staff and there is no charge for this service.

Individuals may submit documents in any text format on floppy or zip disk, or e-mailed as an attachment to AssistiveTechnology@missouristate.edu.  Due to the heavy volume of Braille documentation produced by Assistive Technology Services, some large or complex Braille production requests could take up to ten business days to complete.  In rare instances, longer production time is required.   In all cases, patrons of this service should anticipate a minimum of 48 business hours for turn around on Braille production projects.  Documents submitted electronically (plain text or Microsoft Word) via floppy disk or e-mail attachment will speed the translation and production process considerably.
