COLLEGE PRIORITIES 2006-2007
1) Strengthen Academic Programs
A. Strategic Planning
1. College planning at Department Heads’ Retreat – August 11
2. All CHPA departments and College with up-to-date long-range
plan, as well as specific goals for 2006-2007.
B. Annual Reporting from Departments and College
1. Annual Progress Reports due to dean on June 1.
C. Comprehensive Review of Departments
1. Comprehensive program review of the Department of Political
Science.
D. Graduate/New Program Initiatives
1. Prepare to implement new Master’s program in Criminology,
as well as new not-for-profit management track in M.P.A
program.
2. Review and submit proposals for B.S. in archaeology, Master’s
program in Applied Anthropology, and graduate certificates in
Defense and Strategic Studies.
3. Develop American Studies and Global Studies tracks in M.A. –
History program.
4. Plan to integrate Center for Archaeological Research (CAR)
staff and activities into archaeological/anthropology academic
programs.
5. Increase number of graduate assistantships in CRM, HST, and
REL.
E. Strengthen Classroom Teaching

2) Promote and Sustain Research and Creative Activity
A. Investment in “Futures” Program
1. Submit/support proposals to the Provost’s Incentive Program.
2. Provide some financial support to College proposals not
advanced to the Provost’s Incentive Program.
B. Faculty Initiatives and Incentives
1. Six approved faculty searches for the year (2 in HST, 1 in PHL,
1 in PLS—not-for-profit, 1 in CRM, and 1 in SOC).
2. Start-up reassigned time for first year faculty.
3. Reassigned time opportunities for faculty with varied
assignments.
4. Creation of CHPA Sabbatical Committee and funding of
sabbaticals at the rate of 1/7 of eligible faculty.
C. College Level Infrastructure Development
1. Name acting department head in ECO in September.
2. Appoint department heads (with 5-year terms) in PLS and
REL in spring.
3. Schedule weekly Department Heads’ Council meetings
(Thursdays 11:00 a.m.)
4. Support physical move of Missouri Archaeological Society

D. Grant-Writing Initiative
1. Hold 2-day grant-writing workshop for College faculty; contract
with Ron Stewart – professional grant writer.

3. Support CSSPPR, CAR, and Bureau of Economic Research
in securing external funds to improve the quality of applied
research in archaeology, economics, and social/cultural
issues.

A. Strategic Recruiting and Hiring
1. CHPA 3-year Hiring Plan.
2. Recruit, retain, support, develop, and reward talented,
productive, diverse, and dedicated faculty.
B. CUPA (College and University Professional Association) Median Set as
Salary Goal
1. CUPA median set as salary goal for the CHPA.
C. Compensation Plan Implementation
1. Receive and review with department head council all
department compensation plans.
2. Appoint CHPA Personnel Committee.
3. Administer compensation matrix.
D. College Salary Adjustment Program
1. Plan for at least $50,000 from salary savings toward salary
adjustments.
E. Tenure and Promotion
1. Collect and review all departmental tenure and promotion
documents.
2. Revise all department T/P documents to reflect
compensation plan.
F. College Awards in Excellence
1. College awards and plaques given at Fall All-College
Meeting.
4) Promote Student Access, Retention, Engagement and Success
A. Student Success Initiatives
1. College involvement in learning-communities.
2. Increase and improve course offerings in College programs
(especially DSS and ECO).
3. Encourage student involvement in CHPA-sponsored
student organizations and department clubs.
4. Continue to refine field instruction (internships, practicums,
service learning) programs to meet the educational needs
of students (and strengthen partnerships in the
community).
B. Incentives for Improving Access
1. Encourage and support distance learning technologies
which enhance student learning, improve efficiency, and
expand student accessibility.
2. Continue high school outreach programs – History Day,
History Bowl, Model UN, Philosophy Essay Contest, etc.
3. Update recruitment materials.
C. Collaborations with Community Colleges and Universities
1. Collaboration with Evangel and Drury on accelerated
Master’s in REL.
D. Other Activities
1. Exit interviews in all programs.
5) Expand and Extend the Public Affairs
A. Activities Related to
1. Assist with Fall Public Affairs Convocation – William Cohen.
2. College Committee/Sponsor for panel for Public Affairs
Conference.
3. Co-sponsor/Community Partner of multi-disciplinary panel
discussions, conferences, and guest speakers throughout
the year.
4. Expand the Bureau of Economic Research’s role in
serving the public from regional focus to statewide level.
6) Promote Diversity and Inclusiveness
A. Minority Hiring
1. College to emphasize minority hiring.
B. Other Diversity Emphases
1. Assist in implementation of Global Studies major.
2. Support Area Studies minor programs and heritage month
events such as Freedom Trail trip to Atlanta/Selma, Native
American powwow, AAS after-school program, etc.
