- Dean Stone will be out-of-the-office on October 30 and 31; Dr. Matthews will handle any College emergencies.
- Several participants have expressed enthusiasm and appreciation for the recent CHPA grant-writing workshop. There was consensus that it encouraged renewed interest in writing grants.
- Dr. Rutherford reported that 45 speakers are being recruited for the Public Affairs Conference including five keynote speakers. There are 18 confirmed commitments so far with many others under consideration (i.e., Art Garfunkel, the president of MTV, the Dalai Lama and Richard Gere), and he encouraged student and faculty involvement for suggestions. The CHPA will be sponsoring one of the keynote speakers.
- Dr. Matthews announced that the Fall Schedules should be submitted to him by next week for classroom assignment.
- Dr. Matthews said that an Ad Hoc Committee on Student Evaluations has been formed to evaluate the effectiveness of the current evaluation instrument.
Discussion
- Dean Stone stated that the Provost has requested that any faculty concerns regarding the Compensation Plan should be discussed with the Department Head, who will then carry it to the Dean. Dean Stone will refer these issues to Dr. Craig, Chair of the Compensation Committee, for resolution. The Provost has also stated that untenured faculty members should NOT be on personnel committees. The Department Heads discussed the issues surrounding the pay-for-performance parameters, i.e., weights.
- Department Heads were asked to approach scholarship recipients and the presidents of their student organizations to find at least 14 volunteers from CHPA to participate in phone calling to thank College donors. Dr. Rutherford asked about the effectiveness of such a program, and Dean Stone said she would seek assessment data from the development office.
- Dean Stone asked the Department Heads to submit equipment requests (excluding classroom equipment) for submission to the Provost by November 1.
- Department Heads were also asked to submit their estimated recruitment costs to Dean Stone by November 1.
