  • Fall 2009 Student Orientation Schedule
All service-learning students enrolled or who plan to enroll in a component course must attend one session.  Students will leave the Ounce of Prevention, Photographic Release, and Student Information sheet with CASL staff after Orientation.
  • Missouri State University offers two types of service-learning: 1) Component and 2) Integrated

Component Service-Learning: in this classroom, students have the option of enrolling in a separate, but attached, one-credit course. The student who chooses the service-learning component course is required to complete 40 hours of service-learning time with or for a community partner. S/he must also complete a reflection requirement assigned by the instructor. The reflection piece may be a semester-long journal, final paper, or oral presentation to the class. The instructor decides on the reflection piece that demonstrates student learning.

Integrated Service-Learning: with this course, every student in the classroom has a minimum service-learning time requirement with or for a community partner. The instructor chooses if your class will work together as a team, in groups, or as individuals. Students and the instructor choose one or more community partner sites where students will serve and learn. Reflection is an important element of an integrated service-learning course.
