Board of Governors Review

The board elected new officers. The new officers include Brian Hammons, chair; and Phyllis Washington, vice chair. The new executive committee includes Hammons, Washington, Mike Dugan and Gordon Elliott.

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS

PURCHASES/CONTRACTS

The Board approved the following contracts: The Clark Enersen Partners ,$371,900 plus reimbursable expenses, for architectural and engineering design services in conjunction with phase III work to be done at the William H. Darr Agricultural Center; Unistrut International Corporation, $98,400, for the base bid for the fall protection system for the rigging grid area at the JQH Arena; Nabholz Construction Corporation, $300,000, for the FY10 Job Order  Contracting Services.

The Board approved additional services for Cannon Design, $357,150, in conjunction with the revised scope of work on the new university recreation center. The Board also approved two lease agreements for Missouri State University parking spaces by Jordan Valley Community Health Center.

The Governors approved the July activity and purchasing reports for the Springfield campus.

West Plains

The Board approved the appointment of Tae-Wan Park, assistant professor of mathematics; and Kathryn P. Fisher, per course faculty advisor.

In non-academic action, the Board approved the appointment of Caitlin J. Crouse, administrative assistant II, university/community programs; and the resignations of Dustin L. Pfeifer, assistant basketball coach, athletics, men’s basketball; and Dale A. Law, executive director of VESTA/associate professor, academic affairs.

The Board also approved the purchasing and activities reports for July for the West Plains campus.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Dr. Michael Nietzel gave a report. The Board approved the request for 2011 operating funds.

Dr. Jim Baker, vice president for research and economic development, gave a report regarding Missouri State’s sponsored research compared to benchmark institutions.

EDUCATIONAL

Dr. Belinda McCarthy, provost, also gave a report.

Dr. Jim Baker, vice president for research and economic development, gave a report on sponsored research activities. The Board ratified an agreement with Henan University of Finance and Economics, Henan Province, People’s Republic of China; and with Qingdao University, People’s Republic of China.

The Governors also approved a resolution to authorize the president, through the vice president for research and economic development, to negotiate ownership rights to intellectual property with corporate affiliates collaborating with the Roy Blunt Jordan Valley Innovation Center.

WEST PLAINS CAMPUS

Dr. Drew Bennett, Missouri State University-West Plains chancellor, reported on activities at the West Plains campus. The Board approved a south central correctional facility offender educational program.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

Kristen Sanocki, student body vice president, gave a report.

Dr. Earl Doman, vice president for student affairs, also gave a report.

STAFF SENATE

Konya Knackstead, Staff Senate chair, gave a report.

FINANCIAL

Brent Dunn, vice president for university advancement, reported on development activities for the month of July.

Nila Hayes, chief financial officer, gave a report and the board approved additional purchasing activities.

Ken McClure, vice president for information and administrative services, gave a report. The Board approved Dewitt & Associates, $123,400, for the removal of structural columns at the Art Annex.

The Board approved the trunked radio system license agreement with City Utilities of Springfield and an intergovernmental agreement for law enforcement services with Missouri State University for Fiscal Year 2010.
