CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS

WEST PLAINS

Related to academic employees, the Board approved the appointments of Linda Wulff-Risner, lecturer, agriculture; and Kathryn P. Fisher, per course faculty advisor.

The Board approved the non-academic appointments of Karmen D. Cressman, administrative specialist II, Drago College Store; Kelly R. Becker, to technology support specialist-WP; Heath F. Lair, to technology support specialist-WP; William C. Brown, to technology support specialist-WP; Sylvia D. Kuhlmeier, promotion, to head librarian-WP; and the resignation of Daniel J. Brown, information technology services.

The Board also approved purchasing and activity reports for October-November for the West Plains Campus.

PURCHASES/CONTRACTS

The Board approved the activity and purchasing reports for the Springfield campus.

The Governors confirmed/approved a contract for: WMC Mechanical, $84,650, for the base bid for the second floor lab equipment installation at the Jordan Valley Innovation Center; WMC Mechanical, $84,650, for the base bid for the second floor lab equipment installation at the Jordan Valley Innovation Center.

The Governors approved an agreement for professional services in conjunction with the exterior repairs needed at Hammons House.
The Board approved the purchase of property from Willow Brook Foods, Inc., and approved a cooperative agreement between Missouri State University and the Missouri Department of Conservation to study the propagation of endangered native mussels for research and recovery.

The audit for FY-08 has been completed by the firm of Baird, Kurtz, and Dobson.  Representatives from that firm made a presentation to the Board.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Dr. Michael Nietzel gave a report. The Board approved the appointment of Ken McClure as vice president of administrative and information services. The Board also approved a renewal to the lease of Hammons Field.

EDUCATIONAL


Dr. Pauline Nugent, Faculty Senate chair, gave a report. The Board approved granting the ninth and tenth honorary doctorates to Jan Horton and Patti Penny. Horton and Penny will both receive the Doctor of Public Affairs during the spring commencement ceremonies on May 15, 2009.

Dr. Belinda McCarthy, provost, gave a report. The Board approved an amendment to the Faculty Handbook Committee Document 3.4.4 regarding the Distinguished Professor of Research and the academic calendar for 2010-11.

The Board also approved a new criminology department in the College of Humanities and Public Affairs and a name change for the department of sociology, anthropology and criminology resulting in a department of criminology and revision of the originating department name to the department of sociology and anthropology. The Governors also approved participation by Missouri State University in MoCAP, Missouri Center for Advanced Power, in Joplin, Mo.

Jim Baker, vice president of research and economic development, gave a report on sponsored research activities.

WEST PLAINS CAMPUS

Dr. Drew Bennett, Missouri State University-West Plains chancellor, reported on activities at the West Plains campus.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

Orlando Hodges, student body president, gave a report.

Dr. Earle Doman, vice president for student affairs, also gave a report. Governor Cathy Smith reported on the Student Affairs Committee meeting.

The Board awarded the Citizen Scholar Crystal Award to Sean Cain, Ashley Egan and Catherine Shoults.

STAFF SENATE


Casey Comoroski, Staff Senate chair, gave a report.

FINANCIAL

Brent Dunn, vice president for university advancement, reported on development activities for the months of October and November.

Nila Hayes, chief financial officer, gave a report.

The Board approved additional purchasing activities.

Ken McClure, vice president for information and administrative services, gave a report. The Board approved an agreement for use of First Baptist Church Christian Life Center and of three utility easements to City Utilities. The Board also approved KONE, $355,000, for elevator renovations to Glass Hall and Looney Hall and  a change of status for Ronald Bottin, to dean emeritus, College of Business Administration.

NEW BUSINESS: The Board approved an amendment of its bylaws and voted to repeal out-of-date board resolutions.
