Background:

Ms. Boyd grew up in rural southwest Missouri and attended Soutwest Missouri State University and Iowa State University completing two bachelor's degrees, a master's and an Approved PreProfessional Pratice Program (AP4) in dietetics.   In 1991, she began teaching at SMSU in the dietetics department with Dr. Helen Reid and is now Program Director for the Missouri State Dietetics Program.  Working for the State of Missouri, St. John's Regional Health Center, Drury University and Cox College of Health Sciences, she has a wide range of experiences in health and nutrition including clinical, community and government work and also as a spokesperson for Ross Pharmaceitucals for five years with a nationwide and international wound care workshop.  Working with Heifer, International for a number of years, she has a strong interest in international hunger work and has been able to assist with research projects in El Salvador and Haiti and plans to expand this work over the next several years and include students as often as possible.  In her spare time she consults as a food safety specialist with an  international company doing corporate inspections for restaurants and other food processing or production facilties.  Ms. Boyd was a cross country athlete and a letterman in rifle (two points short of sniper status) as an undergrad, AAA softball player for many years and still enjoys sport shooting and is working to improve her skeet shooting.  Traveling, scuba diving, genealogy, quilting, two cats, two daughters and sons in law and a granddaughter round out her off campus hours.
