Concert Band Camp

Tuesday, June 27-Friday, June 30

- For students grades 6-12, concentrating on band music in the concert setting.  Students will work in sections as well as rehearse with full band throughout the camp!

Cost: $340 per student 

Cost includes: room (2 students per), meals, all activities, camp / performance shirt

Leadership Camp

Wednesday, June 28-Friday, June 30

- For drum majors, section leaders and color guard captains, with classes in leadership, conducting patterns, team-building, and more!

Cost: $290 per student

Cost includes: room (2 students per), meals, all activities, camp / performance shirt

Spin Camp

Wednesday, June 28-Friday, June 30

- For beginning and intermediate color guard students grades 9-12, with classes in equipment (flag, rifle, sabre), movement, marching basics, and performance!  This camp is designed for individuals or complete color guard teams.

Cost: $290 per student

Cost includes: room (2 students per), meals, all activities, camp / performance shirt

Color Guard Day Camp - New This Year!

- For advanced color guard students grades 9-12 - CHOOSE one day, OR enroll for both days!

- A day with JOHN LEONARD! - Wednesday, June 28

Here's your chance to learn from one of the finest performers, teachers and designers in the color guard activity!  John will be teaching equipment and movement classes where you will have the opportunity to learn contemporary color guard choreography.  Known for his warm charisma, John offers a new and fresh approach to color guard choreography.  Be sure you don't miss this opportunity to work with one of the leading designers who continues to help move the color guard activity forward!

Cost: $75 per student

Cost includes: full day session, lunch, camp shirt

- A day with MARLIETA MATTHEWS! - Thursday, June 29

Come refine your equipment and movement technique with one of the top color guard technicians in the country!  In her sessions, you will learn how to increase your skill as a color guard performer.  Marlieta is highly respected in her field throughout the United States, and has developed many color guards in her 30-year teaching career.  Through her watchful eye and vast knowledge of strong color guard technique, she has helped students grow as performers.  You won't want to miss this opportunity to work with one of the best!

Cost: $75 per student

Cost includes: full day session, lunch, camp shirt

If you register for both Color Guard Day Camps, you have two options:

Option 1) come to campus both days (the lunch meal is included in the cost)

Option 2) stay in the Residence Hall on Wednesday night (June 28).  Meals include lunch and dinner on Wednesday (June 28), and breakfast and lunch on Thursday (June 29).  The cost for this option is an additional $35.

 

 

Camp FAQs

What are the benefits of summer camp?

Summer band camps provide instruction, rehearsal and performance experiences that will enhance student growth as a musician, leader and role model in their own school program.  Additionally, campers will enjoy making friends from other schools, as well as have the opportunity to work with some fantastic MSU Band faculty and students!  Evening activities are geared toward recreation and fun.

What age level are the camps designed for?

Band Camp is for students grades 6-12 and focuses on music in the concert setting.

Leadership Camp is for students grades 9-12.

Spin Camp is for students entering grades 9-12.

Color Guard Day Camp is for students entering grades 9-12.

What's the difference between Spin Camp & Color Guard Day Camp?

Spin Camp is for beginning to intermediate color guard students and will be taught by highly qualified, proven color guard instructors.  Color Guard Day Camps are designed for advanced students, and will be a day of intensive work and learning.  Day Camp attendees are welcome to attend one or both Day Camp sessions.

Where do campers stay?

All campers are housed in University Residence Halls. Camp counselors are on duty at all times.

Where do campers eat?

All meals are served in one of the University's Dining Halls.

Who teaches at the camp?

Camp staff is comprised of MSU Band Faculty and Staff, leaders form the Pride Band Program, marching techs with extensive drum corps experience, and highly respected music educators from throughout the Midwest.
