Plan for Improved Student Learning and Assessment

Summary

Academic units developed plans which combine with the Center plan to provide University wide student learning outcome assessment.

Academic unit plans include a minimum of four components although the formats differ.  The plans provide:

  • A statement of purpose for programs
  • Assessment methods appropriate for measurement of progress in accomplishing the purpose
  • Results of the assessments
  • Documentation of how resulting measurements apply to improve student learning.

Plans include assessments that document:

  • Mastery of knowledge
  • Competence in performance or practical application of skills
  • Perceptions of the value of the education provided by the University

The Center maintains copies of all plan components and academic unit assessment reports. Records include the results of standardized tests that evaluate outcomes for major areas and for general education. Other records provide summary reports describing information gathered by surveys.
