Academic Advisor with student in a classroomAcademic advising is one of the most important ingredients to a successful college experience.

At Missouri State, we use a split advising model, where "undeclared major" students are advised through the Academic Advisement Center and students with "declared majors" are advised as their college and department decide.

In some cases (Business and Education) the college has its own advisement center. A few departments (Communication Sciences and Disorders, Hospitality) have hired a full-time professional advisor. In most departments, however, faculty members provide academic advising services. It's up to each department and college to decide how best to provide advising to their majors.
