Study Right to Make the Grades!

Missouri State University no longer offers courses in college study skills.  Here, however, will be found a treasure trove of information for the student who really wants to learn and make the best grades possible.  Many colleges and universities have websites devoted to the quest for better study skills.  After researching for several  months, this one from the folks at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon is the best study skills resource found out of hundreds of college and university websites.

Howtostudy.org Website  Coordinator, Lucy MacDonald, has graciously given us permission to link to the site. This is part of what she wrote in response to our query:

"I am finding that tutors are now using my site and contributing to it, by sharing hints and tips on how to tutor in chemistry (chemistry mnemonics), how to tutor in math (color coded math). In other words, not the content tutoring itself, but the study (ahem) strategies that help students learn the subject matter.  This may be a back door way to bring back learning strategies for your students.

Since I just came back from CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) conference, where tutors presented their techniques, I am even more excited about the howtostudy site, because the tutors do not have any place to share their strategies. I am offering free web space on the howtostudy site for this purpose. You will see more on this next semester.  I am also activating a blog to help folks find out what's new and what's hot.  Right now the hottest thing is the Test Anxiety multimedia presentation by a Psychology teacher called Beating the Big Bad Wolf!  Check out Test Anxiety and then let it fully load.

So feel free to link to howtostudy and have your students use it. They can share what they learned in the reviews. They can be anonymous, if they wish. I read and edit everything, before posting. :-)   This way you can have free marketing for Missouri State. Presidents love free advertising!

Keep the faith, supporting student success."
