Missouri State University

Checklist for High School Seniors

  • Early in your senior year: Submit your application for admission! Students who are admitted early get better choices of residence halls and orientation dates. And, if you haven’t already done so, visit campus. You can sign up for your campus visit online or call us at 417-836-6614.
  • September: You should register to take the October ACT if you're interested in the Presidential and Hutchens/SGA scholarships. The October ACT is the last test date we use to determine eligibility for these scholarships. Our ACT school code is 2370.
  • November: The registration deadline for students wanting to take the December ACT should become aware of ACT registration dates. The December test date is the last from which we’ll take scores to determine eligibility for Missouri State scholarships (except the Presidential Scholarship and the Multicultural Leadership Scholarship, for which the October test is the deadline).
  • December: December 1st marks the deadlines for the Presidential, Multicultural Leadership, and Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leadership scholarships. Also, the Department of Residence Life and Services will send housing information to all admitted students.
  • January: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be available from your high school counselor or the Missouri State Office of Student Financial Aid. You can also find the FAFSA online. Also must apply for admission to Missouri State by January 15th to be eligible for the Board of Governors, Provost, and Deans' scholarships.
  • March: Make sure you’ve completed your FAFSA form in time to be received by the processor no later than March 31. Also, eligible students will receive an offer of admission to the Honors College. The deadline for General and Departmental Scholarships is March 1. Some of these scholarships are need based and require the FAFSA to be completed by March 1st.
  • April: Watch the mail for a SOAR (Student Orientation, Advisement and Registration) invitation for you and your family. Also, the Office of Student Financial Aid will begin sending award letters to students who applied by March 31. Housing assignments begin. Assignments will be made the last week of every month from April to July. These housing assignments are visible in the MyMissouriState student portal.
  • June: If you submitted your housing application, you should get your residence hall assignment in June. SOAR is this month or next! Be sure to ask your high school to send your final transcript with your date of graduation directly to the Office of Admissions.
  • July: Make sure your medical history form is completed and mailed to Taylor Health and Wellness Center. If you participated in a June or July SOAR session, you should get a letter by the end of the month telling you who your academic advisor will be. Also, if you received a loan, you can meet the entrance interview requirement online option.
  • August: The Department of Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services (the Housing Office) sends an email to remind students of their housing assignment, to check the move-in website, and the date they can move in. Move-in weekend begins with residence halls opening at 8 a.m. on Friday, the Freshman Convocation and New Student Festival on Sunday afternoon, and classes begin Monday. Good luck!
