Campus Visit Frequently Asked Questions

Campus Tour at Missouri State University

When can I take a campus tour?
Campus tours are available twice a day on weekdays and once on most Saturdays during the fall and spring semesters. Tours leave from the Office of Admissions at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on weekdays and at noon on Saturday. During the summer, tours are available on weekdays at noon.

How long will my tour last?
Tours usually last between one-and-a-half and two hours. Our tours are walking tours and you'll get a comprehensive look at campus, including academic buildings, classrooms, residence halls, recreational facilities, and other areas of interest to you.

Who will be giving/leading my tour?
Campus tours are led by University Ambassadors who are current students with a variety of backgrounds and interests. They will show you around campus, tell you about their own Missouri State experiences, and answer questions about student life.

What else can I do during my campus visit?
We encourage you to meet with an admission representative, who will talk about admission to Missouri State and who can go over the basics of financial aid, housing, registration, and academic programs. If you would like further information about specific academic programs, financial aid, a student organization or other areas of interest, we will be happy to attempt to make an appointment for you with representatives of that area. In addition, you're welcome to visit our bookstore (we’ll even provide you with a 20% off coupon) and have lunch on in a university dining center provided by the Office of Admissions.

When is the best time to visit campus?
We strongly recommend that prospective students visit on a weekday when school is in session because that's the best time to see campus life in full swing. However, we understand that it is not always possible for families to arrange weekday visits, so we offer a noon presentation and tour on selected Saturdays during the fall and spring semesters. Please be advised, however, that other Missouri State offices are closed on Saturdays and faculty appointments are not available on these Saturdays.

How do I schedule a campus tour?
You may schedule your visit online any time or you may call the Campus Visit Desk at 800-492-7900 or directly at 417-836-6614, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., CST, Monday through Friday. To provide you with the best visit experience, we ask that you provide us 10 – 14 days advance notice, if possible, when scheduling your tour.

What happens once I schedule a tour? Will I receive a confirmation?
Once we have received your request to visit, a campus visit coordinator will begin working on your visit arrangements right away. Depending on the number of additional appointments you have requested, it may take a week or more for us to complete the arrangements. After we have done so, we will send you a finalized confirmation email which will include an itinerary for your visit, a parking pass, and map resources. If we have questions regarding your request, we may need to contact you in order to complete arrangements. Please be sure to provide an accurate email address and daytime phone number.

In order to ensure that you receive your campus visit confirmation email, please add the following address to your email contacts list or “safe senders” list: If you haven’t heard from us at least three days prior to your visit, please call the Campus Visit Desk at 417-836-6614 or 800-492-7900.

What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule my visit?
If you need to cancel your visit for any reason, please call the Campus Visit Desk at 417-836-6614 or 800-492-7900. We will cancel and/or reschedule any appointments.

Can I meet with an athletics coach when I come to campus?
Due to NCAA regulations, we are not permitted to schedule appointments with coaches. However, you are welcome to contact a coach independently and possibly schedule an appointment during your time on campus. Contact information for coaches and athletic departments may be found at

What should I bring with me?
Ours is a walking tour, so you will want to wear comfortable shoes. Since you will be outdoors for a good portion of the tour, so you’ll want to pack light, but do dress appropriately for the weather. If rain is in the forecast, bringing an umbrella would be a good idea. It’s also probably a good idea to bring a copy of your confirmation email with you. When you come for a tour we will give you a folder with an ink pen and some note paper which you can use to record the information you collect throughout the day. Student resumes or letters of recommendation are not necessary; however, if you are applying for admissions and would like to bring the most recent version of your transcript we can accept sealed, official documents.

What if bad weather is in the forecast?
We give tours, rain or shine, unless the university is forced to close due to dangerous weather conditions. If that happens, all tours and appointments are cancelled, although we will be happy to work with you to reschedule them when we reopen. University closure notices are usually posted on the Missouri State University website by 7 a.m. at As we noted above, please be sure to check the Springfield, Missouri, forecast and dress appropriately for the weather when you come to visit.

Are there any special visit days, or open house days, at Missouri State?
We host two major "open house" events per year, both called Showcase. These events are great opportunities for students and their families to tour campus, visit with faculty and staff, attend presentations covering admissions, financial aid, and housing information, and more. The fall Showcase typically happens on a Saturday in October and the spring Showcase happens on a Saturday in April. We also host a Summer Special Visit Day in July or August. For more information about these special visit days, visit our Special Visit Opportunities web page.
