GREEK JAM INFORMATION AND RULES

1. Alcohol will not be permitted inside or outside McDonald Arena.

2. Anyone who is under the influence of alcohol or any other altering substance may be escorted out of

    McDonald Arena.

3. Participants who are performing in Greek Jam need to be at McDonald Arena by 6:00 pm on

Saturday, March 15th. Each participant will be required to buy a Greek Jam ticket.

4. There will be assigned seating this year. Seating will be based on your Greek Week points totaled   by the end of the week. We will use your ticket sales to determine how many seats to rope off and provide some extra seating for parents and just in case you need a few extra. We will notify you by Thursday evening/Friday morning of your location. This will hopefully eliminate any issues with people lining up extremely early and the mad rush to get inside to save seats.

5.No one but the dancers will be allowed into the building before check-in. The dancers will sit on the sides of the arena as in the past.

6. There is to be NO practicing in McDonald Arena previous to the rehearsal times.

7. Remember, many STUNTS will not be tolerated. Every year they are becoming more

elaborate as well as dangerous. As far as what you CAN NOT do: basket tosses and holding up

someone full extension above their head WILL NOT be permitted. Any stunt that requires a spotter   will not be permitted. Tumbling will still be allowed, but ANYTHING seen in rehearsal that seems too dangerous will have to be omitted from your dance with the request of a Greek Jam Chairman or

Advisor. If you do not follow our request, you will be penalized 25 points.

8. Each chapter can pick out their own theme for their own routine/dance. You do not have to

incorporate the Greek Week theme into your Greek Jam theme. All themes must be ethically/racially sensitive in nature and do not degrade the nationality of any individual groups. The Greek Week committee reserves the right to ask you to change your performance.

9. A maximum of 50 people and a minimum of 30 will be allowed on the floor per group. Violations

will result in a deduction of 10 points from your final score. While it is not a requirement to have

the same number of males and females participating, please note that involvement is a category you

will be judged on. So this means that you should have a balanced group.

10. Each team must attend dress rehearsal Friday, March 14th. Each group will be given a maximum of

45 minutes (this includes: setup, dance, and take down). Your music is due to the DJ on Friday so

make sure you have extra copies ahead of time (CD’s ONLY). The rehearsal order will coincide

with actual Greek Jam performances order that you will be informed of at a later date.

11. If you do not leave your rehearsal before the start of the next group you will be deducted 10 points.

12. Each group’s routine will be timed. There are 4 minutes allotted for setting-up and taking down

your set TOTAL. The minimum time for the routine is 7 minutes and the maximum time is 10

minutes. The timing for the routine will begin as soon as the music starts. If you fail to meet the

requirements 10 points will be deducted.

13. Each chapter will be judged on the following:

            - Creativity of the entire performance

            - Theme (original, easily recognized, consistent throughout performance)

            - Involvement of ALL participants (there is no penalty for not having 50 people)

            - Costumes (creativity and appearance)

            -Overall evaluation of dance/routine

**Explanation and points for these categories are given on the judge’s sheet enclosed

14. No outside assistance on the dance/routine is permitted. That means no choreographers unless

someone active in your chapter is a choreographer. No previous dances or UDA, etc. dance moves will be allowed. If any of the above is found to be true, a point reduction or other consequences may occur.

15. Only members of the participating chapters may be on the floor for set up, during the performance,

and for clean-up. You may have chapter members not dancing assist in the set-up and take down of your backdrop. Any non-chapter members on the floor will result in a 20 point reduction. There

are no exceptions to this rule except for disability accommodations.

16. On the judges sheet you will notice that costumes are worth very few points. This was done so that

chapters do not get carried away with them. Your costumes may come from wherever you choose; however, remember that they are worth very few points. They are worth very little because costumes can get expensive and it isn’t fair for one chapter with a bunch of money to buy all new costumes, or for that matter we do not want chapters forcing their Greek Jam pairings to pay for certain costumes

17. Each chapter’s banners for Greek Week will be hanging in McDonald Arena during Greek Jam.

YOU MUST have someone from your chapter take it down after all of Greek Jam is over.

 18. DO NOT leave any trash in any section that your Greek Jam chapters sit in. This includes where            the dancers sit as well as where your chapter audience’s sit. Also, DO NOT leave any trash on the arena floor from your performance. Think about your props and your backdrop because you do not want things like glitter or confetti left behind. A 10 point reduction will occur if any of the above (including the banner) is left behind so let all of your chapters know.

 19. Disrespect towards any other chapter on the subject of Greek Jam and the Greek Jam results will not be tolerated (facebook groups, etc.). Please respect everyone’s efforts as everyone has worked hard to complete their routine.

20. Point deductions: the team captain will be formally notified of point deductions by email and in

writing from the Greek Week Chairs.

*Greek Week Chairs will be responsible for the oversight of all rules and violations*
