The next SAAC meeting will be on Sep. 26th. The meetings will continue every 3 weeks on Wednesday’s at 7:15 p.m. in FORA 256.
Adopt-A-Family: Members need to start collecting $1.00 from every teammate and also ask coaches if they will match the amount collected.
Team’s can continue to collect toiletries while traveling to be donated to the Women’s Violence Center. Melissa will deliver the current box for toiletries.
The SAAC Newsletter for fall:
Casey reviewed the upcoming NCAA legislative proposals. There are several and talks continue about the baseball academic enhancement working group, text messaging to prospects and the golf dates.
Casey discussed the newspaper article and espn.com video regarding facebook and myspace accounts. SAAC will review the possibility of coming up with a social networking policy for the department of athletics and all student-athletes. Examples of other MVC schools policies will be brought to the next meeting.
Casey reviewed the items discussed at the MVC SAAC meeting that was held in July in St. Louis. It was a productive meeting with community service efforts continuing with the KidSmart program. They also had a guest speaker on Title IX from Ohio University.
Members also discussed the possibility of implementing a Sportsmanship Award or Pledge. Examples will be brought to the next meeting.
Champs Life Skills Dates:
Meeting began at 7:00 p.m.
Introduction of student-athletes.
Reviewed and distributed the SAAC mission statement to all members.
Each team member provided an update regarding their team.
SAAC will continue the student-athlete newsletter. The following will do the newsletter each month for the fall semester:

December – WSwim – Brooke Paulsen
There will be a welcome back cookout for all student-athletes, coaches and staff on September 13, 2006. It will be in conjunction with the field hockey game. Cookout will begin at half time. Please inform your teammates about the cookout and come and support the field hockey team as they take on St. Louis University at 7:00 p.m.
SAAC discussed community services options for the academic year.
Just read will be continued with Delaware, Cowden and Roundtree.
Adopt a Street: W. Soccer – September, Field Hockey –October, M Soccer- November, and December – W Track
SAAC would like to put together a cookbook and sell it as part of a fundraiser.
Halloween in the Halls – SAAC will continue to be involved and pass out candy to young children that evening.
SAAC will be collecting a dollar from every student-athlete and asking coaches and staff for donations for the adopt a family for Christmas. Money is to be turned into Darren and is due before Thanksgiving.
Student-athletes will be colleting non perishable items as well as apparel to be given to the Boys and Girls Town as the nonperishable items to be donated to a charity of choice. (food bank, Ozark Food Harvest, etc).
Kevin Sears will update the group on Habitat for Humanity as limited help is needed at this time.
SAAC would like to get involved with the Special Olympics by maybe spending a day with them bowling or even learning how to play wheelchair volleyball or softball. Justin will report to the group.
SAAC along with Greeks will be hosting a dodge ball tournament during homecoming week. This will also be a fundraiser for SAAC and the start to help build relations with other organizations on campus. It will be the Wed during homecoming week.

Carrie Vestal provided an update on the MVC SAAC meeting that took place in August. They discussed the issues with facebook, there might be a new Missouri Valley facebook policy. They also talked about medical insurance and how it might go back to only sports related injuries because of bills. Overall Carrie said she had a lot of fun and it was a great experience.
Casey discussed the scheduled for the Champs Life Skills Seminars for the Fall :
Sept 21 (Leadership and stress management) – the Power of Laughter by Gail Hand will be in the West Gym at 7:00 p.m.
Oct 2 & 3 (Resume and interviewing skills, job search) – Competitive Resource Group in FOR A 256.
Freshman and Sophomores will be from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Juniors, Seniors, and 5th year – 8:30-9:30 p.m.
Oct 3 – you make an appt to come back when it fits in your schedule to see them. Please sign up with Casey ahead of time.
Nov 15 (Etiquette dinner)- first 40 people to sign up, all SAAC members will have the opportunity to attend.
