Student Success

First-Year Programs

The First-Year Programs office is the home of several programs for first-year students.  Our mission is “to offer a foundation for student success.”  Our primary function is to coordinate the first-year seminar, currently identified as IDS 110, for all incoming students with less than 24 credit hours.  Approximately 105 sections are offered each fall, with additional sections in the spring and summer.  Our office is also the home of the Peer Leader program, which provides leadership development and hands-on experiences for facilitating new students’ transition to the university. The most recent addition is coordinating the Curricular Learning Communities, a new initiative for 2009.  Rapid growth of the Learning Community program is anticipated.

Services Offered to the Campus Community:

  1. An opportunity to work with first-year students by teaching the first-year seminar; currently identified as IDS 110
  2. Leadership development for our students through the Peer Leader Program
  3. Instructor development through workshops
  4. Sharing information about campus programs, events, etc., with our first-year students
