Why did you choose to transfer to Missouri State?
It’s a family tradition! Both of my older brothers graduated from here, and my father and mother both attended MSU for a while.
Plus, I just love the town. I have been coming to Springfield for years because it’s 3½ hours from my hometown. It’s easy to get around and there’s a lot of stuff going on. It’s not too big and not too little.
How hard or easy was it to transfer your credits?
It was very easy because I had an associate’s degree when I came here. That means all my credits transferred.
What is your favorite thing about Missouri State so far?
The willingness in people to get to know each other — you can just randomly go up to people and start talking. People at Missouri State will go out of their way to say hi and make you feel welcome. And everything is right here; it’s easy to get around campus.
What do you think of your professors and advisor?
So far, I have liked all my professors. They really seem like they want to get the best out of me and all the other students.
As far as my advisor, she made transferring pretty simple for me. She said “you need to take this, this and this.” She showed me all the requirements and made it easy for me to sign up for classes.
You lived at home while in community college but you live on campus here. What has living on campus been like?
I live in Blair-Shannon. I like it! My favorite part is that I have already met a lot of people — living on campus just makes it easier to meet people. When I want to hang out with my friends, I just walk for 10 minutes to their rooms or I stay home and have them come to my suite. We hang out, watch movies — and we just hooked up the Xbox.
What do you like about Springfield?
It’s a great college town. If you like going out, there’s tons of that. There are always concerts coming through the area, like Rascal Flatts. You also can go downtown to art galleries.
There’s a lot for a sports enthusiast, like I am: MSU traditionally has good men’s basketball and baseball teams, and a lot of the women’s sports are good. And I love that the Baseball Bears play in the same stadium as the Springfield Cardinals, because I love baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals.
What is your favorite thing to do on campus outside of class?
I go to the Rec Center every day. I love to play basketball there. It’s got everything — courts, weights, cardio machines, lockers. It’s so easy for students to use.
Do you think Missouri State is a good value?
Yes. You can go to school here and not have to worry about being constantly in debt for the rest of your life. When you get out, you know the degree will be a good one and you’ll get a job so you can pay back any student loans.
What are your plans after graduation?
I would like to be a high school basketball coach and also teach business, history or P.E.
Why would you recommend Missouri State to other students thinking of transferring here?
There is just more here than other schools: More academic opportunities, more classes, more majors, more kinds of degrees. There are more people and a lot of social activities too.
