Why did you choose to teach? I flat-out love nursing. It’s my passion. I want to pass my knowledge to future generations. When you’re a nurse, you really make a difference.
Why is nursing a great career choice? First, you can be flexible about where you can live— you can be a nurse anywhere in the United States. Second, you can be flexible about the kind of work you do: If you’re tired of working in pediatrics, you can try being a diabetes educator. If you work in infection control and want to try something new, you can go to the surgical unit. Nurses can try lots of different things! Next, the profession is flexible about hours. You can work part-time, or do longer shifts three days a week if you are raising a family. Nurses also usually make good salaries. Plus, it’s just a trust-worthy profession.
Why nursing students should choose Missouri State: A four-year degree is the best avenue for those who want to be leaders in the field. You’ll be set up to get an advanced degree or a promotion. The University also gives you a diverse education since you will take classes outside of your major. Our job is to teach you what a professional is like, including attire and how you speak and write — you become a total package. Nurse managers tell me they love MSU graduates!
What cool experiences can nursing students expect? Students have participated in pediatric rotation at a camp for children, done volunteer work at hospitals and gone on study-away trips to Ecuador. Missouri State also has mannequins that respond like a live person to medical stimulation. We run scenarios so students will see in the classroom what they will see in the real world, but in a safe environment where they can make mistakes as they learn. The mannequins are a lot of fun!
