Army veteran pursues graduate degree after service
After serving in the Army, Jeff Barr knew he wanted to expand his accounting degree. MSU's affordable cost and exceptional faculty made the decision of where to attend graduate school easy.
Degree: Bachelor’s in accounting from Missouri State, 2008
Why I chose Missouri State: Both of my parents graduated from here, so it feels like home. I knew I was always going to go to Missouri State, even as a kid.
Why I chose to pursue an MBA after time in the military: It was a good landing spot for me after getting out of the Army. I wanted to expand on my accounting degree, and going to school full-time for my master’s gives me a chance to find out what I want to do. I’m currently attending school using the G.I. Bill, so Missouri State is a great value for me.
How faculty help students succeed: They are very knowledgeable in their fields and can give you a lot of different perspectives. They make you think critically about the subject they are teaching you, which allows you to figure out the right answer for yourself.
How the program has challenged me to think bigger: The MBA program gives you a little bit of everything, so you don’t just focus on one subject. It allows me to think about all the aspects of business.
