Welcome to Missouri State University, an institution that is beginning its second 100 years of excellence in teaching, research and service. We stand ready to be a leader in education for the 21st century, under our new banner, Missouri State University.
Founded in 1905 as Missouri State Normal School, Missouri State University has grown into one of the nation's leading public, multi-campus, metropolitan universities. With an enrollment of nearly 21,000 students, Missouri State University is the second largest university in Missouri. We offer approximately 150 undergraduate programs and more than 40 graduate programs, and we are extremely proud of the nationally recognized accomplishments of many members of our University community. These include several Fulbright Awards to our faculty; selection for The Princeton Review's Colleges with a Conscience; advanced research at the federally funded Jordan Valley Innovation Center, which houses Missouri State's Center for Applied Science and Engineering and the Center for Biomedical and Life Sciences; the innovative Missouri Virtual School; leadership for the national American Democracy Project; a nationally recognized public affairs program; a highly competitive Division I intercollegiate athletics program and so much more. It is clear why Missouri State University is known for its tradition of "daring to excel."
Set in the thriving community of Springfield, Missouri, the campus of Missouri State is both compact and comprehensive. It is an ideal setting for an academic community devoted to the primary missions of educating students well, addressing important questions through front edge research, and helping the region, Missouri, and the nation imagine and make a better future. The West Plains Campus is a two-year campus within the Missouri State System. Consistent with the university mission, the West Plains Campus provides a strong general education program rooted in the liberal arts as well as quality occupational and technology programs. The 190-acre Research Campus in Mountain Grove is home to the Missouri State Fruit Experiment Station and the Department of Fruit Science. Courses are offered on campus through Fruit Science and the Springfield Outreach Program, and in Mountain Grove by Missouri State University-West Plains. The Branch Campus in Dalian, China, offers a two-year degree program offered through Missouri State University-West Plains and a degree completion program offered through Missouri State's College of Business Administration.
