Welcome Message

Welcome to the website of the Department of Physical Therapy in the College of Health and Human Services at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.  Here you will learn about our physical therapy program and meet the faculty and students.

We offer an entry-level Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT), which requires approximately three years of didactic classroom work and clinical learning experiences.  In keeping with the public affairs mission of the university, our students participate in service learning activities, recognized as a model program in the State of Missouri.  This program allows students to be highly appreciative of their citizenship.

Our program is designed to prepare graduates to use theory and research in meeting everyday challenges in healthcare in order to provide the best care for their patients and to be good ambassadors in their communities.  Faculty members are diverse in their academic and clinical expertise and are committed to educating students in an environment that is friendly, but at the same time challenging for students through the use of problem-solving strategies.  The program is designed to produce excellent general practice clinicians who can function in a caring and professional manner who possess the skills and self-confidence to assume leadership positions at any healthcare facility or to be independent practitioners.

Program Outcomes: The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Missouri State University has a 100% ultimate licensure examination pass rate (classes graduating between 2009 and 2013), a 96.4% first time pass rate for the Class of 2013, and 100% of our graduates are employed within 6 months of passing the licensure examination.
