Meeting Summaries
Update from the 2012-2013 CGEIP Chair with regards to the activities accomplished in the 2012-2013 academic year:
In Fall 2012 CGEIP amended and approved a General Education Program structure that was initially constructed and brought to CGEIP by the Task Force on General Education Revision. CGEIP sent this to the Faculty Senate and they made some amendments and approved a structure for the revised general education. Additionally, CGEIP worked with Brain Edmonds and Andrew Sparks to create an online Application System for courses to apply for the revised general education program and then put forth a call for proposals.
In December through April CGEIP reviewed courses and put forth a final General Education Program change to Faculty Senate in April. Faculty Senate Approved all the courses that CGEIP had approved for the revised general education and made some amendments to the final General Education Program and Requirements and it was then approved on April 30, 2013.
Other program changes or new programs that CGEIP discussed and approved in 2012-2013 were as follows:
Program Changes:
-Honor College
-Global Studies Major
-Journalism (Non-Comprehensive; B.S).
-Mass Media Minor (B.A. & B.S.)
-Bachelor of Music-Composition Option
-Bachelor of Music-Keyboard Performance Option
-Bachelor of Music-Vocal Performance Option
New Programs:
-Museum Studies Minor
-Disability Studies Minor
In the May 8th, 2013 CGEIP meeting the committee approved the New Course forms for ENG289: Literature, Culture, and Conflict. The application for ENG289 (initially approved as ENG287) was approved for the Public Affairs-Cultural Competence area of the revised general education and will be sent to Faculty Senate for approval in Fall 2013. CGEIP also discussed the New Program proposal for the Bachelor of General Studies degree but it was sent back to the Bachelor of General Studies committee with suggestions that CGEIP would like to see before approving the program. The May meeting is a Business meeting and the CGEIP Chair for 2013-2014 was elected. Dr. Rebecca Swearingen (BeckySwearingen@MissouriState.edu) from Reading, Foundations, and Technology in the College of Education was elected as the 2013-2014 CGEIP Chair.
It has been a great year to be a member of CGEIP and I am very glad to have had the chance to work with those that have been on the committee this past year.
Thanks to all those that have worked hard this year both those on CGEIP for the work they did this year and the faculty that submitted course proposals, completed program/course forms, and attend CGEIP meetings.
