Hi there! My name is Emily Clark and I'm from New Bloomfield, Missouri (a very small town most of you have probably never heard of). I am now a sophomore majoring in Fashion Merchandising with a minor in General Business. I am a member of the Association of Fashion and Design (aFAD) and of course, becoming a first-time Peer Leader!
Being the small town girl that I am, I was really nervous to move to what I thought seemed to be a huge campus. But, after a couple of weeks, I really began to feel at home. There are so many people here at Missouri State that are willing to help in any way that they can and will go out of their way to be of any help. For example, my first day of IDS (GEP) 101 class, I was trying to find the hall where my class was taking place. Being directionally challenged as usual, (20 minutes after class had started), I was on the opposite end of campus. Two ladies that were handing out cups of water gave me a map and showed me the way to my class. Without them, I probably wouldn't have made it!
Therefore, my advice to incoming freshmen is this: don't EVER be afraid to ask questions, join any organizations you think you might be interested in, and participate in any activities available to you! It may be out of your comfort zone, but stepping outside that zone is what the college experience is all about. Good luck and I can't wait to meet some of you in class!
